    • The invention is a serial bus identification circuit for a module that enables a microcontroller or microprocessor to identify one or many modules, each having an iButton digital device. The invention enables electronic activating and identifying the digital device amongst a plurality of similar devices. Each digital device has a unique digital registration number, and is an element of a module. In addition to the digital device, the module has a dual addressable switch component having a first switch and second switch, where the dual addressable switch component has a unique digital address; a light emitting source; and a source of electrical power. The dual addressable switch component and the unique digital device are in electrical communication with the serial data bus, and can be added as modules. When the first switch of the unique addressable component is closed, the digital device can be accessed, and the unique digital registration number can be down loaded and correlated to the dual addressable switch component. The second switch of the unique addressable component can be closed activating the light emitting source utilizing the source of electrical power. The light emitting source provides an identifying position signal for the device.

    • A method and apparatus is disclosed for the automatic configuration of a communication input /output port or terminal on a communication device. The communication device comprises one or more input/output ports or terminals, one or more switching devices, some form of switch device controller, and one or more communication circuitry, configured to facilitate communication with a remotely located communication terminal. The one or more input/output ports or terminals of the communication device connect to one or more communication cables or wires configured to transfer data with the remotely located communication terminal. In one configuration the communication cables comprise two twisted pair wires as is commonly installed for telephone communication and utilized for DSL communication service. To achieve automatic configuration, the switching device is initially set in a default position connecting the communication circuitry to at least one of the communication cables. Thereafter, the communication circuitry monitors for enablement of the communication service on the communication cables connected to the communication circuitry. If the service is detected the process is complete. If the communication circuitry does not detect the communication service, the switch controller forces the switching device to connect the communication circuitry to another of the communication cables. This process repeats. Alternative embodiments include communication circuitry configured to support more than one communication standard and communication devices incorporating a low pass filter to achieve pass-through voice communication.

    • This invention discloses an apparatus including an input, a series of shift registers and an output, the input arranged to receive a plurality of serial data streams, each of the data streams containing groups of data, and to take simultaneously data bits from at least some of the plurality of serial data streams and to place the data bits into the series of shift registers, such that the data bits of a given bit position in the data groups of the some of the plurality of serial data streams are placeable together in one of the shift registers, and successive bits of a part of one of the data groups are placed in a given data position across the shift registers, and the output being arranged to read out, in parallel, data of a given data position across the series of shift registers, simultaneously. A method of converting a plurality of serial data streams each carrying data groups into parts of the data groups arranged in parallel is also disclosed.
