    • A system for correcting the time base in a fixed type magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus is disclosed. The system involves picking up video signals with a fixed head, reproducing the video signals with a demodulator, correcting time base variations of the reproduced video signals with a variable delay member, comparing the output signals of the variable delay member with reference signals in order to detect the time base variations caused in the reproduced video signals by the tape running irregularly and the time base variations caused by a change with time or the like in output signals of the variable delay member, feeding back the obtained time base variation signals to the variable delay member through a low-phase filter and a mixer thereby to control the delay member, comparing the phase of input signals to the variable delay member with the phase of the reference signals in order to correct high frequency components of the time base variations which are removed by the low-pass filter, and supplying the obtained time base variation signals to the variable delay member through a high-pass filter thereby to control the delay member.

    • Method and apparatus for compensating for variations in the time base of a video signal reproduced in a longitudinal video tape recording system. The signal is passed through a charge-coupled device clocked by a variable rate clock signal to correct for the timing variations. Thereafter, a clamping circuit removes variable voltage offsets introduced by the charge-coupled device, to prevent objectionable horizontal streaking from occurring in the resulting video picture. A clipping circuit removes random noise from the time base pulses of the video signal prior to its passing through the charge-coupled device, whereby the clamping circuit is prevented from creating an objectionable flicker in the resulting video picture.

The time-axis correcting circuit includes first and second time-axis correcting circuits, each of which has a flywheel oscillator servo loop. The oscillation frequency of the first flywheel oscillator servo loop is set close to the lowest frequency of the dominant time-axis error component to be suppressed while that of the second time-axis correcting circuit is set close to the highest frequency of the dominant time-axis error component to be suppressed.

    • An improved charged coupled device time base corrector system to compensate for a change in the phase or frequency of input video signals, as occurs in the playback of a video tape recorder, by changing the nominal delay through the corrector, comprising, in combination, an input feedback circuit and an output feedback circuit. The input feedback circuit includes two cascaded infinite gain circuits, an infinite gain phase detector followed by an infinite gain voltage amplifier which gives an error voltage that controls the frequency of the voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) utilized to control the system delay. The output servo loop always adapts itself to the input error voltage. The VCO is thereby driven at a rate of change of its frequency proportional to the incoming error signal. .
