    • A steerable antenna architecture, or configuration, for optimal steering of transmitting and/or receiving beam over wide scan angles, is capable of steering the beam on a full hemisphere (2 π steradians), with no singularity or key-hole within a coverage area and with only one RF rotary joint. The architecture includes a dual-reflector assembly defining an antenna focal point located close to a main reflector surface and a signal feed chain having a signal source located adjacent to the antenna focal point and defining a feed axis substantially pointing towards a sub-reflector intersection point. A first actuator rotates the feed chain and the dual-reflector assembly about a first rotation axis generally perpendicular to the feed axis and not intersecting with the coverage area. A second actuator rotates one of the main reflector and the dual-reflector assembly about a second rotation axis aligned with the feed axis.

    • Provided is a parabolic antenna that suppresses leakage of radio waves with a simpler configuration. The parabolic antenna includes a horn that transmits and receives signals; a feed that supports the horn and relays the signals the horn transmits and receives; a reflector that reflects the received signals to focus the received signals on the horn and reflects the signals from the horn to transmit the signals; a reflecting mirror supporting member that supports the reflector; and a feed fitting adapter that enables the feed to be fitted into the reflecting mirror supporting member. A choke groove is formed in at least one of a joint area between the reflecting mirror supporting member and the reflector and a joint area between the reflecting mirror supporting member and the feed fitting adapter, which suppresses propagation of radio waves traveling through the gap of the joint area.

    • Various embodiments of antenna assemblies are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, the antenna assembly includes a reflector comprising a center opening, a feed-antenna subassembly situated in front of the reflector, a rear housing situated behind the reflector, and a pole-mounting bracket comprising a base plate situated between the reflector and the rear housing. The feed-antenna subassembly comprises a feed tube that houses at least one of: a transmitter circuit and a receiver circuit. The rear housing is coupled to a front side of the reflector via the center opening. The rear housing comprises a center cavity, and a back end of the feed tube is inserted in and coupled to the center cavity. The base plate is coupled to the reflector and the rear housing in such a way that decoupling between the base plate and the reflector requires a prior decoupling between the feed-antenna subassembly and the rear housing and a prior decoupling between the rear housing and the reflector.

    • In certain embodiments, a segmented reflector and an antenna having a segmented reflector are disclosed. In certain embodiments, the segments of the reflector are held in side-by-side relationship by the antenna transceiver. In certain other embodiments, the segments of the reflector are held in side-by-side relationship by magnets in each of the segments that are attracted to magnets in adjacent segments. In some embodiments, interengaging male and female detents are provided in the segment endwalls in order to resist shear forces once the segmented reflector is assembled. Other embodiments are also disclosed.

    • A cassegrain-type feed for a parabolic antenna is a dual-band feed and employs a waveguide feeding a dielectric cone feeding a subreflector. The waveguide has an end-portion adjacent a narrow end of the cone. The impedance of an inner wall of the cone is modified by the inclusion of a dielectric sleeve of thickness between ⅙ and ¼ of a wavelength relative to propagation in the sleeve at a mean value of the upper of the two frequency bands concerned. The sleeve helps to provide a rotationally substantially symmetric illumination of the subreflector in the upper frequency band and, when used with a parabolic main reflector, a similarly symmetric illumination of the main reflector also. The sleeve may be replaced by a series of grooves formed in the inner wall of the waveguide end-portion, these grooves being nominally ¼ of a mean wavelength deep.
