    • An intersong detecting circuit for an automatic music selecting device for a record player in which intersong intervals are accurately detected even for a disc having irregular reflectivities or between discs of different reflectivities. An intersong sensor detects intersong intervals between adjacent songs on a recording disc. The output signal from the intersong sensor is sampled and held at a rate determined by a leading-in time/reproducing time time-constant switching signal. The sampled-and-held signal is compared with the output of the sensor to produce a differential signal and an intersong identification signal is produced when the differential signal exceeds a predetermined threshold value.

    • An automatic music selecting device in which a pickup cartridge is accurately lowered onto a disc at an intermediate position between adjacent songs on the disc even if the disc is eccentric. An intersong sensor mounted on the pickup cartridge detects the intersong intervals upon movement of the arm. The arm is stopped at a predetermined interval designated by an externally supplied song number. To do this, the output signal from the intersong sensor is held corresponding to the position just before the arm is stopped. Then, the position of the arm is finely adjusted on the basis of the difference between the level of the output signal thereafter produced by the sensor and the held level.

    • A pickup arm is equipped with a photo sensor assembly for detecting non-recorded portions on a disk. The sensor is located in such a position that horizontal distance between the stylus tip and the detecting point of the sensor measured in the direction of the radius of the turntable is substantially constant throughout the possible rotational angle of the arm. The rotational angle of the arm is measured and is modified by a given angle corresponding to the above mentioned distance. When this distance deviates from a standard value on replacement of the same with another, the variation may be readily corrected by manipulating a potentiometer. Prior to performing an automatic playback, the disk is scanned by the sensor and signals indicative of the arm angles corresponding to the non-recorded portions are stored. After scanning, the arm is controlled by comparing the actual angle of the arm with the prestored angles, to place the stylus on a right position on the disk to perform automatic playback in accordance with programmed information.

    • A nonrecorded section detection sensor is mounted on a sensor arm which is rotatable around a shaft, to which a drive mechanism is connected to scan the nonrecorded section detection sensor above a disc. A slit plate is fixed to the shaft to detect the rotation of the shaft, whereby the address of a nonrecorded section provided between two adjacent tracks recorded on the disc is detected. Another slit plate is fixed to a tonearm drive shaft to detect a current address of a pickup cartridge mounted on a tonearm. A control circuit functions to locate the pickup cartridge at a beginning position of a selected track through the use of information related to the addresses of the nonrecorded section and the pickup cartridge.

    • An unrecorded portion detecting apparatus for a record player. The apparatus has a device such as light-emitting diode for applying light to disc surface and a pair of light-sensitive devices such as phototransistors for sensing light reflected by the disc surface mounted on the tone arm. The pair of light-sensitive devices are separated from each other along a tracing line of the tone arm. The apparatus further has a circuit for producing a detecting signal at the time when the tone arm detects the unrecorded portion, resulting in an output signal from the leading device of the pair of light-sensitive devices. The circuit includes means for uniforming levels of the output signals of the pair of the light-sensitive devices under the same condition, means for differentiating the uniformed signals by a predetermined extent and means for comparing level relationship between the output signals. When the tone arm traces above a boundary when a recorded portion and an unrecorded portion adjoin each other, the level states of the devices as to sensing or not sensing a predetermined level of light are reversed.
