    • A sensor for remotely detecting an object, the sensor comprising: a light source having a coherence length that is short relative to the distance between the sensor and the object; a splitter splitting the emitted light beam into an incident beam and a reference beam; a photorefractive crystal recording a hologram on interfering reception of the reference beam and of the reflected beam reflected by an object illuminated by the incident beam, and playing back the hologram in a diffracted beam that is re-emitted by the crystal by anisotropic diffraction under the effect of the reference beam; a detector recording information on receiving the diffracted beam; and a polarizing filter that eliminates the major fraction of the reflected beam as transmitted by the crystal on receiving the reflected beam; such that the detector receives only the diffracted beam from the crystal. Both the sensor and imaging systems incorporating the sensor enable measurements to be made through diffusing media.

    • A polarization imaging apparatus includes a laser light source and an image pickup element. Object light and reference light each include a first polarized-light component polarized in a first direction and a second polarized-light component polarized in a second direction that is different from the first direction. The image pickup element simultaneously captures an image of an interference pattern including (i) a first interference figure, (ii) a second interference figure, (iii) a third interference figure, and (iv) a fourth interference figure. The polarization imaging apparatus includes a reconstructing section generating respective reconstructed images of the object in regard to the first and second polarized-light components, from the first to fourth interference figures, and a polarized-light-image-calculating section obtaining polarized-light images from the reconstructed images.

    • The present invention provides a computer generated hologram including a plurality of anisotropic cells having different refractive indices with respect to linearly polarized light in a first direction and linearly polarized light in a second direction perpendicular to the linearly polarized light in the first direction, wherein the plurality of anisotropic cells are made of an identical material and includes a first anisotropic cell, a second anisotropic cell, a third anisotropic cell, and a fourth anisotropic cell which have different thicknesses, and the plurality of anisotropic cells change phases of linearly polarized light in the first direction and linearly polarized light in the second direction, thereby making a first light intensity distribution formed on a predetermined plane by the linearly polarized light in the first direction different from a second light intensity distribution formed on the predetermined plane by the linearly polarized light in the second direction.
