    • A vehicle shock absorber for dampening spring oscillations on a vehicle having a pair of bladders located in a casing and separated by a dividing member. The shock absorber may be attached between the body of a vehicle and its wheel suspension, whereby movement of the wheel suspension will move the dividing member between the bladders against one or the other bladder forcing a fluid in the bladders to flow therebetween through a bladder connecting member. A valve allows the fluid to flow easier in one direction than the other, or the valve may be eliminated by the choice of bladder material and design whereby a shock absorber is provided which may be of tubular design without having the usual fluid seals.

    • A leak-proof damper with a self-diagnostic feature. An auxiliary oil reservoir body is disposed externally with respect to the damper cylinder and generally adjacent the rod seal, wherein the auxiliary oil reservoir body is concealed by an end cap. The maximum volume of oil retainable by the auxiliary oil reservoir body is predetermined to coincide with a volume of oil which may be lost from the interior of the damper cylinder and yet the damper will still function properly. The auxiliary oil reservoir body may be a seal body having an internal cavity providing an oil retention volume or an absorbent body having an absorbency capacity that provides an oil retention volume.

    • Disclosed is a vibration damping and isolation apparatus having a passive damping mechanism. The passive damping mechanism includes an outer tubular member and an inner member. The inner and outer members are linearly movable relative to one another upon application of forces to the damping apparatus. The inner member is spaced from the outer member by a fluid shear gap that is filled with a viscous fluid. Fluid pressure of the viscous fluid remains constant while the viscous fluid dissipates the forces by direct fluid shear upon relative linear movement of the outer and inner members.
