    • A composite steel plate has a core material and steel plates on both sides of the core material and has mounting holes. A metal collar has a flange, a sleeve portion extending from the flange, and a locking portion extending from the sleeve portion and having a thickness thinner than that of the sleeve portion. The present invention provides a mounting structure for mounting the metal collar onto the composite steel plate. The locking portion is enlarged, and a first enlarged diameter portion is formed. Then the sleeve portion is enlarged, and a second enlarged diameter portion is formed. One steel plate is thereby clamped between the first enlarged diameter portion and the second enlarged diameter portion, and the other steel plate is thereby clamped between the second enlarged diameter portion and the flange. Thus, the metal collar is mounted onto the composite steel plate.

    • A method for assembling a metal collar to a resin component includes: inserting the metal collar into a mounting hole of the resin component, and setting them so that a flange of the collar abuts a jig; inserting a screw mandrel of a fastening tool into a through-hole in the collar, and rotating the mandrel so that the male threading of the mandrel engages the female threading of the jig; abutting a nosepiece of the fastening tool against the collar, and stopping the rotation of the mandrel; withdrawing the mandrel so that the nosepiece presses against one end of the collar with sufficient force to enlarge the outer diameter of that end of the collar to form an enlarged portion, thereby securing the resin component between the enlarged portion and the flange; and (e) rotating the mandrel in the reverse direction to disengage the respective threading.

    • The present invention provides a tacking rivet for fastening work pieces together which have aligned apertures therethrough. The tacking rivet includes a head portion and an elongated sleeve portion extending from the head portion. Both the head portion and the sleeve portion have openings therethrough which are in alignment with one another. The tacking rivet further includes a plurality of rib portions positioned on an outer surface of the sleeve portion which are capable of engaging with walls of the apertures of the work pieces when the sleeve portion is expanded within the apertures of the work pieces. Because the rib portions engage with the walls of the apertures of the work pieces, the tacking rivet will not rotate within the apertures during a drilling operation to remove the tacking rivet from the apertures prior to the installation of a permanent fastener to fasten the work pieces together.
