The silicon nitride porous body has a porous structure with a large average pore diameter, with a test specimen cut out from the porous body exhibiting large thermal conductivity and a small thermal expansion coefficient, and can be suitably used in a component for purifying gas and/or solution such as a ceramic filter.

摘要： A gas filter assembly for removing particulates from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine comprising a housing having an inlet pipe for coupling to the engine and an outlet pipe open to the atmosphere is disclosed. The inlet pipe and the outlet pipe define an exhaust gas flow path. A self-contained filtering means is disposed within the gas flow path. The filtering means includes a plurality of inlet cells, microporous filter elements, filter support elements, and the outlet cells. The components of the filtering means are disposed such that the exhaust gas flows through the inlet cells, then through the microporous filter elements and filter support elements, and finally through the outlet cells. Each of the components of the self-contained filtering means are highly resistant to excessive temperatures, so that the filtering means may be regenerated by heat, which burns off accumulated, typically hydrocarbon, particulates.

摘要： Cross flow diesel particulate traps are disclosed in which a cylindrical canister contains a plurality of individual ceramic trap elements. The canister is provided with inlet openings along one side and outlet openings along another side which respectively communicate with inlet and outlet spaces formed between individual ceramic trap elements. The traps are provided with inlet and outlet plenums which communicate with the respective canister openings for directing exhaust gases through the canister and for collecting the exhaust gases. In one embodiment, the inlet plenum is divided by partitions into zones and a diverter valve directs regeneration gases to selected zones canister regeneration. Ceramic trap elements are disclosed adapted for use in a diesel exhaust gas particulate trap formed with a disc-shaped body of open cell ceramic material with opposite faces terminated by partially surrounding peripheral walls which define inlet and outlet gaps at the respective sides of the element. A membrane layer having a pore size substantially smaller than that of the remainder of the body is formed at the outlet surface of the trap element.

摘要： An exhaust gas purifier for internal combustion engine, has a porous filter impregnated with a desired adsorbent or a porous filter made of bulk metal catalyst. Instead of extending perpendicular to the main axial direction of the exhaust pipe, the filter extends axially and is mounted on a metal screen cylinder having a baffle which diverts the flow of exhaust gas toward and through the cylinder and filter. In this manner, the exhaust gas flows axially into the screen cylinder and then passes radially through the filter to a second flow passage which is connected to the purifier outlet. Very low back pressure is obtained with this arrangement.

摘要： An exhaust gas filter purifies exhaust gas containing particulate matter emitted from an engine. The filter has cell walls and cells surrounded by the cell walls. Through pores formed in the cell walls, adjacent cells are communicated. The cells have open cells opening along an axial direction of the filter, and plugged cells. An upstream end part of the plugged cell is plugged by a plug member. On a cross section perpendicular to the axial direction, a flow-passage sectional area of the plugged cells is larger than a flow-passage sectional area of the open cells. A total length of the filter is not less than a first standard value and is not more than a critical length Lm determined by respective predetermined equations.

摘要： A filtering device for diesel engines is based on metal foams. In order to achieve high filtration efficiency with low pressure drop using deep bed filtration metal foams, a radial flow concept is used based on a “porosity gradient”. The foams can also be coated with catalytically active material to enhance soot oxidation (regeneration), as well as reduction of other exhaust gas pollutants (CO, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides). This may be accomplished by using non-uniform amounts of catalytic materials within the filter depending on the targeted application. An additional secondary filter segment may be placed within the metal support of the main filter segment. The metallic diaphragms at the entrance and exit of the external shell are designed in such a way as to allow the flow to be divided between the main and the secondary filter segments according to the respective flow resistances.
