摘要： A method of inserting an intervertebral disc implant into a disc space includes accessing a spinal segment having a first vertebral body, a second vertebral body and a disc space between the first and second vertebral bodies. The method includes securing a first pin to the first vertebral body and a second pin to the second vertebral body, using the first and second pins for distracting the disc space, and providing an inserter holding the intervertebral disc implant. The method also desirably includes engaging the inserter with the first and second pins, and advancing the inserter toward the disc space for inserting the intervertebral disc implant into the disc space, whereby the first and second pins align and guide the inserter toward the disc space.

摘要： Surgical devices permitting a surgeon to access repeatedly tissue at a particular surgical site in a patient to perform multiple surgeries over time. The devices have two substantially planar and parallel leaves that are sterile, nonresorbable, and biocompatible. Each leaf forms a continuous structure and defines the entire longitudinal length of the device to accommodate the size and location of the surgical site. A base member is located in situ and adjacent the surgical site. An anchoring surface secures the device to the tissue of the patient at the surgical site. The leaves have a conjoined portion such that a manual force is required to separate the leaves, thereby expeditiously creating a pathway through which access to the tissue at the surgical site is realized with minimal tissue dissection, and the proximal ends of the leaves are not conjoined to facilitate separation of the leaves and creation of the pathway.

摘要： A method of measuring the relative position of a bone implant within a bone in a patient to detect movement between the implant and bone is provided, wherein one or more radiopaque bone markers have been implanted into the bone through a cannulated implant within the bone and one or more radiopaque implant markers have been implanted into the implant. The method comprises: i) determining a first relative position of the bone marker to the implant marker under a first parameter; and ii) determining a second relative position of the bone marker to the implant marker under a second parameter, wherein a change in the position of the bone marker relative to the implant marker from the first relative position to the second relative position is indicative of movement of either the implant or the bone.
