    • A switch comprises a plunger, a retainer, a pair of terminals and an electrically-conducting wiper contact having a curved or bent middle portion defining two oppositely directed legs on either side of the middle portion. The retainer cooperates with the plunger to carry the wiper contact as the plunger moves between a normal and an actuated position. The terminals have facing contact surfaces for biased engagement with the portions of the legs exposed by the plunger and retainer to form an electrical path between the terminals when the plunger is in the actuated position. The plunger and the retainer are coupled together by arms which project from either the plunger or the retainer. The wiper contact is secured between the plunger and retainer without the need for forming a central loop in the wiper contact for engagement by the plunger.

    • The video image of the end effector (26) and work surface (32) in the vicinity of the end effector is converted into a series of continually generated digitized images (132), which are further processed to detect and track the relative motion between the end effector and the work surface. After calibration (126), whereby an index of coordinates and arm orientation is established for a known positioning of the end effector relative to a known reference feature (28a) on the work surface, the tracking (168) of the motion of the end effector is utilized to continually update the index (104) to indicate the actual coordinate and orientation of the end effector relative to the work surface. The updated index is displayed on a live video monitor (44), and can be used as input to the feedback circuit (94) of the manipulator control system. In another embodiment of the invention, a high resolution monitor (52) displays an image of substantially the entire work surface, and particularly the features of interest, in the nature of a work surface map, and superimposes thereon a visual indication of the location, orientation and movement of the end effector, using the updated index information.

    • Apparatus for training athletes, especially football lineman, includes a frame having a pair of guide rails extending between front and rear upright posts. The guide rails are arranged parallel to each other and have generally horizontal sections and inclined sections. The training apparatus also includes a weight assembly supported by the frame for movement on the guide rails. In using the training apparatus, an athlete moves upwardly and forwardly from a crouched position between the front upright posts of the frame and pushes the weight assembly along the horizontal sections of the guide rails and then up the inclined sections of the guide rails. The training apparatus is particularly effective in developing and strengthening the upper body muscles of athletes.

    • A method for obtaining a reflectance image from a plurality of thermal images utilizes a technique of A) obtaining a first thermal image of a subject, the first image containing both temperature and reflectance data; B) changing the environmental temperature of the scene, C) obtaining a second thermal image of the subject, the second image containing both temperature and reflectance data from the scene with said changed environmental temperature; and D) deriving a third image from the first and second images, that third image being essentially a reflectance image. In one embodiment, the third image is derived by subtracting the data in the first image from the data in the second image, or subtracting the data in the second image from the data in the first image. In another embodiment, either of the first or second images are processed along with the third image to produce a temperature image substantially devoid of reflectance information. A system for performing such techniques is also disclosed.

    • A machine and method for performing balancing measurements on a tire or tire/wheel assembly that includes a structure defining spaced apart tire centering and tire testing positions. A first conveyor moves a tire to a centering position where a shuttle assembly is operative to center the tire and, after it has been centered, engages the tire and effects the transfer of the tire from the centering station to a testing station. The shuttle assembly includes a pair of grippers that move towards and away from each other, in a lateral direction in order to engage the tire. The first conveyor permits movement of the tire in a lateral direction; whereas it substantially resists relative movement between the tire and conveyor in the longitudinal direction, i.e., the direction of movement of the conveyor. The shuttle assembly is mounted for movement in a longitudinal direction and includes a drive mechanism which allows the shuttle assembly to move relative to a tire in a longitudinal direction as the grippers engage the tire so that the shuttle assembly can align itself, in the longitudinal direction with respect to the tire. The frame structure of the machine includes three spaced apart support members providing a three point support arrangement for the machine. The machine also includes at least four legs which extend downwardly, but are spaced above a plane defined by the support members and inhibit tipping of the machine beyond predetermined limits. The testing station which includes a spindle assembly for rotating the tire also includes an elevator mechanism for lowering the tire on to the spindle and for raising the tire off the spindle. A lower marking mechanism forms part of the elevator and is operative to mark a predetermined location on the tire at the conclusion of a tire testing procedure. The spindle assembly includes a drive motor comprised of a drive motor housing and an armature. The armature is maintained in its operative position by a bearing arrangement associated with a shaft assembly forming part of the spindle assembly which eliminates the need for armature supporting bearings in the drive motor housing.

    • The present invention consists of a new and unique ergonomic handgrip with separate ulnar and radial support means that divides the pressure between the heel of the hand and the thumb area along with removing the pressure in the central palmer crease at the joining of the wrist. This is accomplished by using a dog-bone shape with an ulnar or heel support area having a cavity conforming to the shape of the heel of the hand and a radial or thumb support with a cavity conforming to the shape of the thumb of the hand where it joins the wrist. The ulnar or heel support and the radial or thumb support are angled so as to keep the wrist in a neutral position in relation to the device and are divided by a median groove that blends up into the gripping area of the device. The median groove maintains a space between the device and the carpel tunnel or central palmer area of the hand. By adapting the conventional computer mouse to the shape of the ergonomic handgrip with separate ulnar and radial support means, some or all of the wrist pain can be eliminated.

    • A switch housing having elongated side walls and an end wall that defines a housing interior. Conductive switch terminals supported within the housing interior extend outside the switch housing for connection to an external circuit. A switch actuator extends through the end wall of the switch housing and is supported by the switch housing for movement along a travel path to control an actuation state of said switch by selectively shorting the conductive switch terminals. A housing cover encloses the housing interior and includes openings to allow the terminals to extend from the housing interior to connect to the external circuit. The cover supports the switch housing in a selected one of two different orientations on a support surface. A retainer coupled to the housing cover has a retaining surface spaced from one wall of the housing cover by a gap that permits the retainer to slide over a tab coupled to the support surface to which the switch housing is mounted. A latch member attached to the retainer by a flexible connection permits the latch member to flex as the retainer is pushed over the tab. The latch member has a projection coupled to the latch member that fits into an opening in the tab for inhibiting further relative movement between the tab and the switch housing in one of said two orientations.
