摘要： The invention relates to a method of making a conductive thermoplastic composition containing at least one dispersed phase polymer with a continuous phase polymer and at least one conductivity imparting agent wherein the bulk resistivity of the composition is at least partially determined by the particle size of the dispersed phase within the continuous phase. The thermoplastic composition preferably comprises a compatibilized blend of at least one polyphenylene ether resin, at least one polyamide resin, and at least one conductivity imparting agent, and optionally, one or more of impact modifiers, stabilizers, antioxidants, lubricants, and fillers.

摘要： Conductive polyphenylene ether-polyamide compositions having excellent ductility are prepared by melt blending polyphenylene ether, an unsaturated impact modifying polymer and a functionalizing compound in an initial step, optionally in combination with a portion of the polyamide, and subsequently melt blending with the remainder of the polyamide and conductive carbon black having a low volatiles content. A mixture of polyamides, illustrated by mixtures of polyamide-6 and polyamide-66, is employed.

摘要： A process for making reduced gloss thermoplastic resin compositions is provided. The process involves compounding a nitrile polymer with an electrophilic reagent to form a polymeric gel compound, blending the polymeric gel compound with a first thermoplastic resin and a weight ratio of between 5:1 and 0.5:1 to make a concentrate comprising gels dispersed in the first thermoplastic resin, and admixing the concentrate with a second thermoplastic resin produced the desired composition, wherein the concentrate is used at a level of from 2 to 60 percent by weight based on the total weight of the composition. The process provides improved product consistency, and consistently yields a product exhibiting reduced gloss and high levels of impact strength with a uniformly dispersed concentration of polymeric gels therein. The compositions are useful in making molded articles exhibiting consistent reduced gloss and high impact strengths.

The method allows the formation of an intimate resin blend while minimizing the styrene monomer content of the final blend.

摘要： A poly(arylene ether)-polyolefin composition is prepared by melt-blending a poly(arylene ether), a poly(alkenyl aromatic) resin, a hydrogenated block copolymer of an alkenyl aromatic compound and a conjugated diene, and an unhydrogenated block copolymer of an alkenyl aromatic compound and a conjugated diene to form a first blend, and melt-blending the first blend and a polyolefin and additional hydrogenated block copolymer to form a second blend. A reinforcing filler and/or an ethylene/alpha-olefin elastomeric copolymer may, optionally, be added during formation of the second blend or in an additional step. Multiple mixing elements, low throughput, and high extruder rotations per minute may be used to achieve high energy mixing of the first and second blends. Compositions prepared by the method exhibit an improved balance of impact strength, stiffness, and heat resistance, as well as reduced variability of physical properties.
