摘要： There are provided a write light valve for generating image-writing light by modulating write light, a driver for writing images into the write light valve based on image data, read light valves for each color for generating respective color image lights by modulating each received color illumination light, an imaging lens group for guiding the image-writing light emitted from the write light valve to the respective read light valves, a dichroic cube for combining together color image lights emitted from the respective read light valves, a projection lens for projecting each color image light combined together. The imaging lens group has a distortion aberration which reduces or cancels out a distortion aberration of the projection lens.

The illuminating device R emits light in red, the illuminating device G emits light in green, and the illuminating device B emits light in blue. The lights emitted from the respective illuminating devices are guided onto transparent liquid crystal display panels R, G, B by convex lenses. Each illuminating device is formed of a light source, a light guide, a condenser lens, and an integrator lens. The light source is formed of having one or a plurality of LED chips aligned on a plain surface. The LED chips have photonic crystal structure, and a light-emission direction approximately vertical to a light-emitting surface, thus high in directionality.

摘要： An illuminating device comprises a first light source in which LED chips are arranged in an array shape and a second light source in which LED chips are arranged in an array shape. The two light sources of each illuminating device are arranged such that the main light-emission optical axes of the light sources are perpendicular to each other. Moreover, a time-division switching mirror is provided at a crossing position between the main light-emission optical axes. The first light source and the second light source alternately emit pulses of light. The pulsed emission is a method of supplying a large amount of electric currents to the LED chips in a short time period, and a light-emitting amount increases compared to a steady-state emission of the LED chips. The time-division switching mirror becomes a transmitting state when the first light source is lighted, and becomes a reflecting state when the second light source is lighted.
