    • The present invention provides a method for manufacturing polysaccharides isolated from Curcuma xanthorrhiza, including steps of: (S1) preparing a powder of Curcuma xanthorrhiza Roxb.; (S2) extracting the powder with an organic solvent, and then filtering or centrifuging to obtain a residue; (S3) extracting the residue to prepare a solution containing polysaccharides; (S4) removing starch by adding starch-hydrolyzing enzyme to the polysaccharides-containing solution; (S5) precipitating the polysaccharides after the step (S4); and (S6) purifying the polysaccharides after the step (S5), polysaccharides obtained according to the manufacturing method, and a pharmaceutical composition in eluding the polysaccharides as effective component. The polysaccharides according to the present invention may be very effectively used in drugs and functional foods for stimulating macrophage activity, preventing and treating immunological diseases including cancer, and enhancing immunity after the treatment of the immunological diseases.

    • The present invention relates to a novel use of a panduratin derivative or a Boesenbergia pandurata extract. More specifically, the invention relates to a composition for preventing and treating/relieving a metabolic disease selected from a group consisting of obesity, hyperlipidemia, hypercholesterolemia and diabetes, containing a panduratin derivative represented by Chemical Formula 1, 2 or 3 or a Boesenbergia pandurata extract as an active ingredient, a method for treating a metabolic disease selected from a group consisting of obesity, hyperlipidemia, hypercholesterolemia and diabetes, by administering an effective amount of the panduratin derivative or the Boesenbergia pandurata extract to a subject in need thereof, and a use of the panduratin derivative or the Boesenbergia pandurata extract to prepare a reagent for preventing and treating/relieving a metabolic disease selected from a group consisting of obesity, hyperlipidemia, hypercholesterolemia and diabetes. As can be seen foregoing, the present invention provides a novel use of a panduratin derivative or a Boesenbergia pandurata extract. A panduratin derivative or a Boesenbergia pandurata extract of the present invention shows excellent effects on a metabolic disease such as obesity, hyperlipidemia, hypercholesterolemia and diabetes by decreasing highly related causes of metabolic diseases such as on weight, body fat and lipid-content. Since a composition of the present invention is originated from natural materials, it can be used without side effect and provides novel method for preventing and treating/relieving a metabolic disease through body weight loss and body fat loss and the like.

    • An antibacterial composition having xanthorrizol is provided. The xanthorrizol is prepared by obtaining crude extract having antibacterial activity from Curcuma xanthorriza Roxb. lysate by the aid of solvent extraction, supercritical fluid extraction, microwave extraction or ultrasonic extraction; applying the crude extract to chromatography to obtain active fraction; acetylation of the active fraction to change its polarity and applying to chromatography to isolate an acetylated single compound; and, deacetylation of the acetylated single compound to give xanthorrizol having antibacterial activity. Since xanthorrizol has potential antibacterial activity over a broad spectrum of microorganisms under a wide range of temperature, it can be practically applied to antibacterial agent, tooth paste, oral cleanser, chewing gum, soap and cosmetics which require the antibacterial activity.
