    • In a power-assisted steering system including a steering shaft arranged to be rotated by steering effort applied thereto, a fluid pump driven by a prime mover of the vehicle, a hydraulic cylinder having a power piston mounted for reciprocating movement in the cylinder and operatively connected to driven members of the steering system, and a servo valve interconnecting the fluid pump and the cylinder and being responsive to rotary motion of the steering shaft for selectively directing the flow of fluid under pressure from the pump to one of opposite fluid chambers of the cylinder and permitting the flow of fluid from the other fluid chamber to a fluid reservoir to effect reciprocating movement of the power piston, an electrically operated control valve of the normally closed type is disposed within a bypass passage between the opposite fluid chambers of the cylinder to permit the flow of fluid passing through the bypass passage in its energized condition so as to restrain rapid increase of the pump load during maneuvers of the vehicle. The control valve is arranged to be energized when the power piston approaches to its stroke end.

    • An attachment for a synthetic resinous reservoir as used in an automotive power steering system is provided with a steel bracket having a vertically extending dovetail slot whose horizontal width is narrowed as the height of the same decreases. The synthetic resinous reservoir has protruded from its side surface a vertically extending dovetail portion whose horizontal width is likewise narrowed as the height of the same decreases for close fitting in the dovetail slot. The dovetail portion presents at a part thereof a horizontal surface portion, which is in abuttable engagement with an upper end of a holding member bodily formed on the bracket, so that the reservoir can be prevented from generating chatter relative to the bracket.

    • In a pump housing are installed a pair of pump rotors which rotate as one body with a rotating shaft. A plurality of vanes are mounted on these pump rotors to separate the internal space of each cam ring into a plurality of pump chambers. An intermediate side plate is positioned between the cam rings, which are held between one wall of the pump housing and a rear side plate. The intermediate side plate is constituted of a pair of side plates which are in contact with each other. A recess is formed in the inner peripheral part of one of the opposite sides of these side plates, forming a pressure chamber. A pressure fluid discharged from the pump chamber is supplied into this pressure chamber. The inner peripheral part of each side plate is elastically deflected by the fluid pressure of the pressure chamber into contact with the side of each pump rotor. Thus, gaps between the side plates and each pump rotor are narrowed, preventing fluid leaks.

    • A flow volume control device for use in a power steering system, which comprises: a casing having an inlet port, a reflux port and a delivery port; a fluid passage formed in the casing in communication with the inlet, reflux and delivery ports; fixed orifice means provided in the fluid passage to restrict the flow or pressurized fluid from the inlet port to the reflux and delivery ports; and throttle means provided in the fluid passage between the fixed orifice means and delivery port. The control device further includes a main spool movable in response to pressure differential across the throttle means for controlling the flow rate of the pressurized fluid from the fixed orifice means to the reflux port of maintain a predetermined flow rate of the fluid to be fed to the delivery port through the throttle means; an auxiliary spool movable in response to the pressure differential across the fixed orifice means for reducing the open area of the throttle means according to increases of fluid pressure supplied to the inlet port; and a branch passage formed in the casing by-passing the fixed orifice to connect said inlet port directly to the throttle means, the branch passage being opened when the auxiliary spool is shifted to reduce the open area of the throttle means to slow down the speed of movement of the auxiliary spool.
