    • Systems in accordance with the present invention can include a tip contactable with a media, the media including a servo pattern, an inhibiting matrix having a plurality of cells disposed within the inhibiting matrix, wherein the servo pattern is defined at least partially by the plurality of cells. A data portion amongst which the servo pattern is disposed can further be defined within the inhibiting matrix. Alternatively, the data portion can include a continuous media. A tip including a conductive contact surface can be positioned in contact or near-contact with the plurality of cells, and a voltage potential can be applied across the media from the tip. A resistance of the at least one cell is then detectable. In an embodiment, the resistance of the at least one cell can be lower than a data indicium within the continuous media or within a patterned media, thereby identifying the cell as a servo mark. In an embodiment the at least one cell can be a read-only cell having a conductive material disposed within the cell. Alternatively, the at least one cell can be a write-once cell including a switchable material. A large current can be driven through the write-one cell to form an effectively permanent servo mark, the servo mark having a resistance smaller than a resistance of an indicium.

    • The present invention relates to a water treatment composition comprising blended phosphates which exhibit a synergistic effect for corrosion and scale control and as a sequestering chemical treatment of potable water and more particularly to chemistry which lowers the phosphate concentration necessary to achieve effective corrosion prevention. The composition controls corrosion and cleans the water distribution line by removing scale, tuberculation, and biofilm. Sequestration of the heavy metals and soft metals such as iron, manganese, calcium, and magnesium provides complete solubility of the material to be removed from the metal surface. The inclusion of citric acid with the blended phosphate formula improves drinking water quality in 2 ways: 1) a reducing agent reverses the oxidation of metals which would convert metal to metal salts (copper/lead, etc.) and 2) by chelation, it encapsulates transition metal cations, especially Manganese and Iron, found while source water passes through the treatment process and the drinking water distribution piping network.

    • Systems in accordance with the present invention can include a tip contactable with a media, the media including a phase change material disposed over a substrate, a lubricant layer disposed over the phase change material, and optionally an overcoat disposed between the phase change material and the lubricant layer. The lubricant layer can include polymer chains (also referred to herein as polymer fibers), the polymer chains being adapted to bond to one of the phase change material and an overcoat. Where an overcoat is used, the overcoat is a highly anisotropic material that conducts current more efficiently through the overcoat than across the overcoat. The media is either grounded or electrically connected with a voltage source such that when the tip is placed in contact with the media and a voltage is applied to the tip, a current is drawn through the media. The lubricant layer reduces wear on the tip by providing a movable surface that does not stick to the tip, but rather holds to the bonded surface.

A detector is positioned to monitor each beam so that a moving object “cutting” the beam can be detected by a controller in communication with the beam or beams. The controller deactivates the beams and relies solely on the motion detector when no objects are near the perimeter. Once the motion detector senses an object in the area of the perimeter, however, the controller activates the beams. If an object then interrupts a beam, the controller activates an alarm.
