    • A braking pressure regulating device, in particular an anti-lock control device for hydraulic brake systems of automotive vehicles, comprising a master cylinder and a pressure modulator for the variation of the hydraulic pressure in the wheel cylinders during the braking pressure control mode. The device is equipped with a motor-driven pump (8) for generating a hydraulic pressure and with an electronic control unit (5) for controlling the valves of the pressure modulator (2). During the braking pressure control mode, the working chambers (10, 15) of the master cylinder (16) are exposed to pump pressure. Caused by the pump pressure in the working chamber (10), the push rod piston (11) and thus the brake pedal (1) disadvantageously are returned into their basic position in prior-art devices. The present arrangement provides that the switching positions of the regulating valve incorporated in the push rod piston are shifted into the cylinder during the braking pressure control mode. Therefore the brake pedal is not fully reset during the control mode. The operating comfort of the brake pedal is thereby augmented.

    • For the control of a brake-slip controlled brake system the brake pedal force assisted by auxiliary force is transmitted onto a master cylinder (10, 10', 33) and from said onto the wheel brake cylinders via several pressure fluid paths that are adapted to be closed independently of one another. The wheel rotational behavior and the vehicle velocity will be measured with sensors (S1 through S4), the signals will be logically combined, and therefrom control signals will be generated for electromagnetically actuatable directional control valves (15, 16, 17, 19, 35, 36, 37, 42, 43, 52). During control action, the pedal force (F) that is directed to the master cylinder and assisted by auxiliary force will be compensated temporarily by an opposed force, as a result whereof the pressure rise in the master cylinder will be retarded or pressure will even be decreased. During the phase of reduced pressure in the master cylinder, the switching position of the directional control valve (15, 16, 17, 35, 36, 42, 43) which are inserted in the pressure fluid lines (24, 24', 25, 25') leading to the wheel brake cylinders will arrange for the pressure in the wheel brake cylinders to be either maintained constant due to line closure, or to be reduced to the level desired by causing pressure fluid to discharge to the master cylinder (10, 10', 33) through the directional control valves switched to open passage.

The switch valves are actuated by way of a differential pressure control circuit (148) in response to exceeding a predetermined pressure difference in the two pressure chambers (76, 176) such that the switch valve connected to a defective brake circuit will be closed.

A normally closed return valve is interposed in the return conduit from the respective wheel brake actuating cylinders and can be opened, either directly or indirectly, by the auxiliary energy during the antiskid control operation, so that the pressure from the wheel brake operating cylinder to be controlled can be relieved to the low-pressure supply reservoir while rendering static operation of the wheel brake actuating cylinders possible in its normal closed position assumed when no antiskid control action is needed. The pressure of the auxiliary energy hydraulic fluid can be generated by a hydraulic pump which is operated only during the antiskid control action, or the auxiliary energy supply system can be operated on a continuous basis, in which case the auxiliary hydraulic fluid is supplied to the hydraulic braking circuit only when the need for an antiskid control action arises.

    • In an auxiliary power assisted master cylinder arrangement for a vehicle brake system to generate a controlled brake pressure in associated wheel brake cylinders, there is provided a brake valve with a preceding servo travel simulator to effect a control of the wheel brake cylinders of a vehicle. In one construction of the arrangement, there is interposed between two master cylinder units a pedal-operable device including mechanical cross links connecting with the master cylinder units as well as another cross link connecting with the brake valve. The brake valve is movable into engagement with the servo travel simulator, while the pedal-operable device, under normal braking conditions, is acted upon by the controlled pressure from an auxiliary power source in opposition to the pedal pressure and includes a lock providing for interlocking of all mechanical links in the event of a failure of auxiliary power. In another construction, each master cylinder unit is preceded by a second lock which is normally released with auxiliary power available and, in the event of a failure of the auxiliary power, couples the master cylinder units with the associated cross links at least in the direction of pedal operation. The present invention is advantageously employed as a brake slip control apparatus.

The inventive shock absorber allows the selection of a special characteristic curve out of a family of potential characteristic curves. Simultaneously, the sensitivity of the shock absorber to errors of the electromagnetic actuation is eliminated.
