    • A method and system is provided whereby a customer either establishes a new account or converts their existing account into a program that maximizes the use of online bill payment, electronic statements and paperless charge transactions in exchange for reward payments. In accordance with the method and system, customers establishing or transferring to the program are provided with an electronic transaction card formed from 100% recycled plastic material, on-line banking and an electronic monthly statement thereby eliminating all of the paper associated with the management side of the account. Then customers who enroll receive an incentive for each and every payment or transaction that they complete without using paper.

    • A novel charge card is a combined debit and credit card. The customer is offered an election of a credit feature or of debit feature. If debit is selected, the customer enters a personal identifier (e.g., a PIN). In the further transaction, the novel process investigates the authorization request to determine whether or not a PIN field contains a PIN value or any field or field entry that may indicate that a “personal identification indicator” was entered at the point of sale. If a personal identifier is present, the transaction is authorized against the available balance in the customer's debit (e.g., checking) account. If the PIN is absent, the transaction is authorized against the available credit on a connected line of credit. In an alternative implementation, the customer is offered an election of a credit feature or of debit feature. In both selections, the customer enters a personal identifier. In the further transaction, the novel process investigates the authorization request to determine whether or not the PIN field contains a value indicating that an identifier was entered at the point of sale. If a PIN is present, the payment authorization message is further investigated to determine whether the “Credit” option or “Debit” option was selected. If “Debit” was selected, the transaction is authorized against the available balance in the customer's debit (e.g., checking) account. If “Credit” was selected, or if the PIN is absent, the transaction is authorized against the available credit on a connected line of credit.

    • Systems and methods for obtaining data using participants in a virtual gaming environment is provided. This method provides a simulated market economy with multiple participants. The simulated market economy is supported by instant messaging as a communications platform. The participants are enabled to obtain virtual resources available from the simulated market economy by, for example, (i) using virtual currency to purchase an item from a virtual store, (ii) by purchasing the item from another participant in a simulated secondary market purchase, or (iii) by trading one item from the participant's inventory for another item in a simulated barter transaction. Once a participant obtains a virtual resource, a signal is generated. This signal is transmitted to other participants through the instant messaging platform to indicate that such virtual resource has been obtained. Data regarding behavior of the participants in the simulated market economy is collected.
