    • A shutter of a camera is provided with a shutter trip detecting device includes LEDs and PTRs. Measured are tripping timings of leading and trailing curtains for admitting and intercepting object light to an aperture. An exposure time on a film and a tripping time (curtain velocity) of each curtain are thus detected. The detected result is compared with a fiducial value, and an alarm is given according to the need. There are detected mechanical fluctuation elements relative to the shutter, e.g., a scatter of the exposure time on the film, a partial uneveness of the exposure time and an influence on the exposure time due to a fault in a driving mechanism. The alarm can be thus given to the user, and an automatic adjustment can be made. The shutter trip detecting device includes the shutter leading/trailing curtains, the LEDs and PTRs which detect tripping thereof.

    • A camera lens shutter having separate aperture blades and shutter blades arranged in a manner to provide a shutter unit having decreased thickness. The lens shutter includes a first shading member to expose an exposure aperture when in an open state and to cover the exposure aperture when in a closed state. A first circular cam drives the primary shading member. A second shading member forms a plurality of aperture diameters, and a second circular cam drives the second shading member. The inner diameter of either the first or second cam is made larger than the outer diameter of the other. The lens shutter may also include a shading member to expose an exposure aperture wherein an open state, a first circular cam to drive the first shading member, a second shading member to cover or close the exposure aperture, a second circular cam to drive the second shading member, a third shading member to form a plurality of aperture diameters, and a third circular cam to drive the third shading member. The respective cams of the shutter units are positioned concentrically and may be on approximately the same plane to provide a thinner shutter unit.

    • A driving device for a piezoelectric actuator, in which a voltage is applied to a piezoelectric actuator to generate a mechanical deformation therein, thus actuating a mechanical system. In another aspect, the electrical insulation state of the piezoelectric actuator is detected and, if deteriorated, the destruction of insulation is prevented by an alarm generation and/or inhibition of voltage application in an embodiment, the insulation state is identified from the ambient humidity of the actuator. In another embodiment, if the detected humidity is at a high level that may induce destruction of insulation, the piezoelectric actuator is driven with a low voltage, in order to dehumidify by heat generation. The piezoelectric actuator may be used in a shutter control device for a camera.

The device preferably includes an assisting member (45) which is connected to the balancer and which is caused to travel so as to provide a pressing force to assist the rear shutter diaphragm when the rear shutter diaphragm travels in the first direction, thus making it possible to perform the retraction of the rear shutter diaphragm more reliably. A chasing member may also be provided to chase the assisting member and secure a space between the front and rear shutter diaphragms by contacting the assisting member if, for example, the rear shutter diaphragm begins to travel prematurely by malfunction.

    • A camera having a mechanism to determine the precise times at which a shutter or shutter blinds open or close an aperture. The camera measures the actual time in which shutter blinds pass over the aperture by utilizing a projection unit, positioned on one side of the shutter, to project a signal towards the aperture. A signal receiving unit is placed on the other side of the shutter and receives the signal. The output of the signal receiving unit changes depending on whether the signal projected by the projection unit is blocked by the shutter (when the shutter is closed) or whether the projected signal passes through the aperture. The projection unit and the receiving unit can also be placed on the same side of the shutter, with a reflecting unit placed on the other side of the shutter, with the shutter blinds having a different reflectivity than the reflecting unit. When the shutter blinds are closed, the projected signal is reflected off the shutter blinds and received by the receiving unit. When the shutter blinds are open, the projected signal is reflected from the reflecting unit and received by the receiving unit. The output of the receiving unit is different, depending on whether the projected signal was reflected off the shutter blinds or off the reflecting unit. By analyzing the receiving unit output, the state of the shutter can be determined.
