    • Disclosed herein is an LCD device having a drive area directly formed inside a non-pixel area of a substrate without an additional drive IC. The LCD device includes a first substrate having a pixel area and a non-pixel area disposed peripherally to the pixel area. The pixel area has a thin film transistor and a pixel electrode in each sub-pixel defined by gate and data lines crossing each other. A second substrate formed in opposition to the first substrate includes a color filter layer and a black matrix layer. A liquid crystal layer is formed between the first and second substrates. An opening in the black matrix layer reveals an alignment mark, which is disposed on at least one of the first substrate and the second substrate.

    • A liquid crystal display device for minimizing the number of data lines and reducing a line resistance is disclosed. In the device, liquid crystal cells are provided at intersections between gate lines and data lines. At least one thin film transistor is provided at each liquid crystal cell to drive the liquid crystal cells. A source protrusion is provided at an ith horizontal line (wherein i is an integer) and is extended from any one of the thin film transistors. The source protrusion is connected, via at least one gate line, an other horizontal gate line excluding the ith horizontal line. A gate protrusion is extended from the other horizontal gate line in such a manner to be connected with the source protrusion.

    • A liquid crystal display device (LCD) includes an alignment mark in a pixel region. The LCD includes upper and lower substrates; a plurality of gate lines; a plurality of data lines arranged to perpendicularly cross the gate lines on the lower substrate and defining unit pixels together with the gate lines; a switching element at each crossing of the gate lines and the data lines; first and second alignment marks disposed on respective sides of at least one of the gate lines and the data lines; a pixel electrode at each unit pixel; a black matrix on a region of the upper substrate corresponding to a boundary region of the unit pixels; and a liquid crystal layer between the upper and lower substrates. One side of the first alignment mark and one side of the black matrix lie on one straight line, and one side of the second alignment mark and the other side of the black matrix lie on one straight line.
