    • A braider comprises a plurality of horngears. The horngears can be arranged for forming at least two closed paths for braiding. Each horngear has a driving gear and a hornplate. Each horngear can be selectably operated in a first mode, to rotate with the driving gear, and in a second mode, in which the driving gear rotates, but the hornplate does not. Bobbin carriers are positioned on some of the horngears. A track is configurable in: a first flat braiding mode with the carriers arranged on the horngears, so that there is one or more separate closed path for forming a first flat braid configuration; and a second flat braiding mode for forming a second flat braid configuration different from the first flat braid configuration. A switch is provided for changing a configuration of the track between the first and second flat braiding modes.

    • The invention relates to a circular carriage track guide for a braiding machine. The braiding machine has at least two supply spool support sets performing relative movement with respect to each other about its rotational axis during braiding, wherein the spool supports (16) of one of the spool support sets are guided by the carriage track guide and the carriage track guide comprises a carriage (20) for each spool support (16) for attachment thereof. The carriage track guide comprises a set of outer rollers (6) for the outer radial guidance of the carriages (20), said outer rollers being attached to a support plate (4) of the carriage track guide such that an outer surface (70) of the respective carriage (20) can roll on a surface (38) of the outer rollers (6) which is mounted so as to be able to rotate by means of at least one roller bearing. The carriage track guide is characterized in that the carriage track guide comprises a set of inner rollers (8) for the inner radial guidance of the carriages (20), said inner rollers being attached to the support plate (4) such that an inner surface (68) of the respective carriage (20) can roll on a surface of the inner roller (8), that is mounted so as to be able to rotate by means of at least one roller bearing, and in that the weight of the carriage (20) and of the spool support (16) guided by the carriage track guide is absorbed via at least one of the inner and outer roller bearings. The invention provides a carriage track guide in which sliding friction occurs only to a relatively small extent.

    • Apparatus for braiding an article from a plurality of fibers, comprising a plurality of ring members of substantially the same size which are disposed side-by-side in axially aligned relation and have means for supporting fiber carriers for axial movement relative thereto.     • A braider carrier for wide ribbon and/or composite strand is disclosed. The braider carrier guide pulley assembly includes a support, a pulley frame operatively, pivotly mounted to the support, a generally cylindrical guide pulley operatively, rotatably mounted to the pulley frame to accomodate movement of the carrier during the braiding operation, openings through the support and pulley frame at the point of pivot and aligned with the guide pulley, a delivery eye operatively connected to the pulley frame, the eye and the openings capable of holding strand to be braided against the cylindrical surface of the pulley preventing the strand to be braided from twisting during the braiding operation which pivots the pulley frame. The braider carrier bobbin assembly utilizes a magnetic clutch and a torsion spring, the spring capable of providing slack control of strand to be braided and the clutch capable of providing tensioned feed of strand as strand is wound off of the bobbin.

    • Cores (a1-a4) pass through separate points in a plate (1) of the machine, over which plate thread-carrying spools (17.sub.1 -17.sub.24) are free to move. Two pairs of spools (i.e. four spools) are associated with each of the six possible pairs of the cores (a1-a4). Both spools in each pair are wound in the same direction around the corresponding pair of cores. The other two spools corresponding to the same pair of cores wind round the pair in the opposite direction. At successive steps of the method, each spool in each pair of spools is swapped with the other spool of the pair to occupy the position previously occupied by the said other spool. As a result, each pair of cores is covered by two helical windings in each winding direction.

    • A drive mechanism for driving one or a plurality of displaceable elements around a closed path, such as a circle, constituted by a linear induction actuator associated with means for constraining the displaceable elements to move in the closed path.     • The bobbins in a jacquard-type lace-making machine are displaceable by means of mechanisms each constituted as an output member carrying one or two bobbins, a transmission member and a continuously rotating drive member. The drive and output members are formed with respective bevel gears centered on the axis of the device and the transmission member carries at least one bevel gear rotatable about an axis transverse to the rotation axis for the mechanism and meshing with both of the gears so that the output gear can rotate in a direction opposite that of the drive gear. An operating shaft carries a pair of operating arms and is displaceable between a stopping position in which the one arm arrests the output member while the other arm allows the transmission member to rotate and a racking position in which the one arm allows the output member to rotate whereas the other arm arrests the transmission member. A cam may be provided on the drive member or on the output member for forceably returning the operator to the stopping position after 180.degree. displacement of the output member.
