摘要： The use of novel heterogeneous catalyst complexes as catalysts for oligomerizing alpha-olefins is disclosed. The complexes are formed from (i) a solid olefin polymer having a linear backbone and a plurality of pendant omega-hydroxyalkyl groups, (ii) an organomagnesium halide, and (iii) a boron trihalide, preferably BF.sub.3. The complexes can be recovered and reused repeatedly in batch-type operations and can be used for long periods of time in continuous or semi-continuous operations without replenishment of their boron trifluoride content.

The catalyst is formed by contacting, under fluid conditions, a homogenous fluid containing a paraffin hydrocarbon having from 4 to 12 carbon atoms with a Lewis acid/protic Bronsted acid pair to produce a discrete catalytic complex that is soluble in the fluid. The discrete catalyst is the reaction product of the acid pair and alkanes and includes hydrocarbon ligands of limited chain length rendering it soluble in the fluid. The catalyst is active for the alkylation of isoalkanes, under homogenous fluid conditions.

摘要： Catalytic composites of the reaction product of a metal halide having Friedel-Crafts activity with the bound surface hydroxyl group of inorganic oxides and containing a zerovalent metal with hydrogenation activity, often are effective catalysts in motor fuel alkylation which, however, undergo rapid deactivation. Deactivated catalysts are readily regenerable by treating the composite from which alkylate feedstock has been removed with hydrogen at temperatures in the range of 10.degree. to 300.degree. C. Multiple regenerations are possible without appreciable activity loss.
