摘要： A tubular parison for forming a medical device balloon. The parison is formed of a polymeric material, for instance a thermoplastic elastomer. The parison has an elongation at break which is not more than 80% of the elongation of the bulk polymeric material. The elongation of the parison is controlled by altering extrusion conditions. Balloons prepared from the parisons provide higher wall strength and/or higher inflation durability than balloons prepared from conventional parisons of the same material.

The degree of impregnation and placement of the cross-linkable composition within the pores of the porous material can be controlled very precisely through the use of a pressure differential. The pressure differential is effected through a nonreactive gas, a vacuum, or a combination thereof. Medical devices produced using such a method are also disclosed.

摘要： A bone plating system for the internal stabilization of a fractured bone is disclosed. The system includes a bone plate having a plurality of conical plate holes tapering toward a bone contact surface and at least two bone screws for anchoring the bone plate to a bone. The screws have a conical head with a textured or structured lateral outside surface which is greater in hardness than the portion of the bone plate which is proximal to the plate holes. The present system provides positive locking between the screw heads and the plate holes.

摘要： The present invention is an endovascular embolic composition. The embolic composition comprises a hydrophilic insoluble matrix having a microscopic mesh-like structure. The voids or intricacies of the matrix enclose droplets of aqueous solution as well as liquid oil. This structure is essentially equivalent to a "gel" structure with the insoluble matrix including both aqueous and oil droplets within its mesh. In creating the matrix a liquid oil base is mixed with an aqueous solution of a matrix base. The matrix base comprises an organic polymer such as a protein like albumin or its equivalent dissolved in an aqueous solution which may contain additional solutes. The matrix base solution is mixed and emulsified with the liquid oil base at a volume ratio ranging between about 1-to-1 and 1-to-5 respectively. To create the embolic composition the matrix base is then precipitated or cross-linked to form a gel with a mesh-like microscopic structure in which insoluble matrix surrounds and entraps both aqueous fluid and liquid oil. Preferably sclerifying agents are included within the composition so that scar tissue will develop to permanently occlude the embolized vasculature.

摘要： Collagen-based compositions useful in the attachment of tissues, or the attachment of tissues to synthetic implant materials, are disclosed. The compositions comprise collagen crosslinked using a multifunctionally activated synthetic hydrophilic polymer. A particularly preferred composition comprises fibrillar collagen, a fiber disassembly agent, and a multifunctionally activated synthetic hydrophilic polymer. Methods are disclosed for using the compositions to effect the attachment of a native tissue to the surface of another native tissue, a non-native tissue, or a synthetic implant. Also disclosed are methods of using the compositions to prevent the formation of surgical adhesions.

摘要： Various forms of chemically modified collagen are covalently crosslinked with activated synthetic hydrophilic polymers to form optically clear biocompatible conjugates useful in a variety of medical applications, particularly in ophthalmic devices. The chemically modified collagen is in substantially nonfibrillar form at pH 7 and is preferably succinylated or methylated collagen. The synthetic hydrophilic polymer is preferably an activated polymeric glycol, most preferably, a di- or multifunctionally activated polyethylene glycol. Materials and devices formed with the chemically modified collagen-synthetic polymer conjugates have good optical clarity, mechanical strength, and moldability.

摘要： The present invention discloses a novel method for preparing crosslinked biomaterial compositions for use in the augmentation of soft or hard tissue. In general, the method comprises mixing a biocompatible polymer, which is preferably collagen, with a sterile, dry crosslinking agent, which is preferably a synthetic hydrophilic polymer such as a functionally activated polyethylene glycol. Also provided are preferred processes for preparing sterile, dry crosslinking agents contained within syringes for use in the method of the invention. Methods for sterilization of the crosslinking agent include, but are not limited to, sterile filtration, aseptic processing, and e-beam or gamma irradiation. Methods for providing augmentation of soft or hard tissue using crosslinked biomaterial compositions prepared according to the method of the invention are also disclosed.
