    • A curved pyrolytic graphite crystal x-ray monochromator has at least one diffraction surface of graphite crystal for diffracting and monochromizing x-rays generated from an x-ray source so as to bend and/or converge the diffracted and monochromized x-rays, wherein the diffraction surface has a predetermined curved surface. In a method for manufacturing a curved pyrolytic graphite crystal x-ray monochromator, one or more pieces of polymer films are heated at a temperature predetermined in a range from 400.degree. C. to 3500.degree. C. so as to form carbonaceous films, and then, one or more pieces of formed carbonaceous films are superimposed, heated and pressed onto a predetermined curved surface of an isotropic graphite die at a temperature predetermined in a range from 400.degree. C. to 3500.degree. C., while applying a predetermined pressure onto the carbonaceous films provided on the isotropic graphite die, thereby forming the curved pyrolytic graphite x-ray monochromator of graphite crystal having a resulting curved surface corresponding to the predetermined curved surface.

    • Inserts mountable on the top surface of the treads of escalator steps and walkway segments enabling adjustment of the gap between the ends of the tread and the adjacent balustrade skirts. The top surface of each tread is provided with evenly spaced ribs defining grooves therebetween and extending from the front edge to the rear edge of the tread. At its sides, the tread top surface has recessed planar unribbed surfaces extending from the front edge to the rear edge of the tread. A pair of plastic inserts is provided for each tread. The inserts are mirror images of each other and have ribs extending from their forward edges to their rearward edges, and having the same spacing as the tread ribs. The inserts are mountable on the recessed planar surfaces of the tread and extend from the forward edge to the rearward edge thereof. The outer edge of each insert has a downwardly depending flange covering the adjacent side edge of the tread. The inserts are laterally adjustable to enable minimizing of the gap between each tread side and the adjacent balustrade skirt. Inserts may also be affixed to the riser side edges in the case of an escalator step.

    • Mixing material around an inner agitator in a mixing vessel is urged upward and outward by rotating the inner agitator in one direction. Simultaneously, mixing material around or adjacent an outer agitator is urged downward and inward by rotating the outer agitator in the opposite direction. Consequently, the mixing materials urged upward and downward are caused to be circulated by convection in the mixing vessel and the mixing materials urged outward and inward are caused to collide between the inner and outer agitator, thus forming a high-pressure region between the inner and outer agitator. The mixing materials are mashed in the high-pressure region and well mixed in a short time at high efficiency without being agglutinated to the inner agitator.

    • By rotating mixing blade units having blades inclined in opposite directions, pulverulent materials such as cement can be effectively mixed with a liquid under the most suitable condition to produce a desirable mixture. The blades of the mixing blade units are in spaced opposed relation to each other and formed so as to have their front edges spaced at a larger distance than their rear edges relative to the direction of rotation, thereby to cause the parts of the mixture around the respective mixing blade units to come into collision with each other between the mixing blade units. A mixture of high quality in which the pulverulent materials are uniformly dispersed without being left in the form of immiscible lumps with the liquid can be obtained.
