    • A description is given of a bending device for two working rolls (1) of a roll stand having guide blocks (6), provided in lateral roll uprights (3), for each of two vertically adjustable pressure transmission elements (4a, 4b), on which the working rolls (1) are supported via inserts (2), and each having two bending cylinders (5), which are arranged between the pressure transmission elements (4a, 4b) and have a piston rod (12) which acts on a pressure transmission elements (4b, 4a), and a cylinder (10) formed by the respective other pressure transmission element (4b, 4a). In order to provide advantageous design conditions, it is proposed that the L-shaped pressure transmission elements (4a, 4b) have a longer, vertical and a shorter, horizontal limb (8, 9), that the limbs (8, 9) of the pressure transmission elements (4a, 4b) be located opposite each other in pairs in a plane parallel to the working rolls (1), and that the longer limbs (8) of the pressure transmission elements (4a, 4b) be mounted in vertical guides (7) in the respective guide block (6) and accommodate a cylinder (10) of the bending cylinders (5), whose piston rods (12) act on the shorter limbs (9) of the respective other pressure transmission element (4b, 4a).

    • A system is disclosed for applying a liquid lubricant to first and second components enclosed in a housing, with the lubricant applied to the second components being exposed to contamination by a liquid coolant applied to the exterior of the housing, and with the lubricant applied to the first components being substantially isolated from the liquid coolant. The system includes a partition internally subdividing the housing into a first chamber containing the first components and a second chamber containing the second components. Lubricant is delivered from a storage tank to the housing for application to the first and second components. A first conduit network communicates with the first chamber for returning the lubricant applied to the first components to the storage tank, and a second conduit network communicates with the second chamber for returning lubricant applied to the second components to the storage tank. A liquid coolant removal unit in the second conduit network removes liquid coolant from the lubricant being returned to the storage tank.

    • A rolling mill oil film bearing has a sleeve with a tapered interior surface axially received on and rotatably fixed with respect to a tapered section of a roll neck. The sleeve has a cylindrical outer surface journalled for rotation within a bushing contained in a chock, with the chock, bushing and sleeve being axially removable as a unit from the roll neck. The sleeve is machined from a cylindrical forged blank which has a maximum outer diameter equal to the diameter of the sleeve's cylindrical outer surface. At least one element separate from the forged blank is secured to the sleeve. The element has a radially protruding outer portion engageable by the bushing during axial removal of the bearing unit from the roll neck.

    • The method and apparatus of the present invention is a rolling mill having rolls with inverse symmetrical profiles and a method of using the same. An inverse symmetrical profile is a profile in which the right and left sides of a roll, with respect to the roll center line, have the profiles that are described by the same polynomial function but with opposite signs. A family of metal strip profiles can be created by the method and apparatus of the present invention wherein the family of strip profiles created prior to roll shifting are strip profiles expressed by polynomial functions having terms of the n.sup.th order, where n is preferably 1-5 inclusive, and the family of strip profiles produced by shifting at least one upper roll having an inverse symmetrical profile and at least one lower roll having an inverse symmetrical profile are strip profiles expressed by polynomial functions having terms of the (n-1).sup.th order, where n is preferably 1-5, inclusive.

    • A device and method for changing rolls in a roll stand. Each stand includes two working rolls, each having a backing up assembly including at least one intermediate roll. An adjustment structure is provided for adjusting levels in relation to the axes of each of the rolls with respect to the stand and for setting forth four levels of disassembly, respectively of both working rolls and both intermediate rolls. Two pairs of rails are provided parallel to the axes of the rolls arranged on the stand at two constant levels each at a level of disassembly and carrying sliding carrying members for removal of the corresponding intermediate roll. A handling device is placed on one side of the stand and includes at least one handling and guiding chassis carrying two pairs of rails aligned respectively with both pairs of rails on the stand. At least one extractor device is mounted to slide at a constant level on the guiding chassis. A carrying member is mounted on the extractor device to pick up each working roll with the level of the carrying member being adjustable. A removable mechanism is provided on the extractor device for hooking each of the intermediate rolls. The removable mechanism is actuated selectively.
