摘要： A cutting tool assembly includes a cutting tool and an indexable cutting insert having an insert index axis. The cutting insert includes parallel insert first and second sides connected by an insert peripheral surface that extends peripherally around the cutting insert. At least one clamping hole opens out to one or both of the insert first and second sides, and at least a portion of the clamping hole is in a clamping region of the cutting insert. The insert peripheral surface includes cutting edges that are spaced-apart and extend from the insert first side to the insert second side. Along a width direction, which is perpendicular to the insert first and second sides, each of the cutting edges is wider than the cutting insert, at least at the cutting region of the cutting insert.

摘要： The present invention concerns a system for fixing a cutting head to an adapter for a machine tool. The cutting head includes a first linear flange, a second linear flange substantially parallel to the first linear flange and a unit for holding a cutting bit. A holding jaw is provided for being fixed to the adapter and for engagement with at least one of the linear flanges on the cutting head, and a clamping device for clamping the at least one holding jaw between the at least one flange of the cutting head and the adapter. At least one further clamping device is connected to the adapter for engagement with the second or the linear flanges. Furthermore a cutting head and an adapter is defined.

A plurality of cutting portions extend outwardly from the imaginary polygon and are equal in number to the number of side walls thereof. Each abutment section is located between two cutting portions. The insert holder has an insert pocket in which the cutting insert is retained with the peripheral edge surface being abutted at two abutment sections by two support walls of the insert pocket, the support walls being fixed and integral parts of the insert holder.

The surfaces possess rows of alternating parallel grooves and ridges for locking the surfaces to each other. Each of the surfaces has two rows of grooves, one row oriented 90.degree. relative to the other row. On one of the surfaces, some of the grooves of one row are in non-intersecting relationship with the grooves of the other row. On the other surface, the rows extend completely across one another, whereby the rows together form a waffle-like pattern. The cooperating surfaces allow at least four separate relative positions between the cutting head and holder.
