    • A connector comprising a body of electrically insulating material having contact holes each provided with an electrical conductive contact element and arranged in at least two columns and at least two rows is provided. Each column has a longitudinal direction. Each contact element comprises a set of contact springs arranged for contacting a contact pin of a mating connector. Shielding elements of electrically conducive plate material being disposed in the body are provided. Each shielding element is shaped and arranged so that neighboring contact elements are always entirely shielded from each other by parts of the shielding elements. The shielding elements are square wave shaped and are each arranged within one column in such a way that an open portion of each of the square wave shaped shielding elements is not adjacent to an open portion of a neighboring square wave shaped shielding element.

    • A socket and a method for making a socket for securing an integrated circuit package to a supporting structure. The integrated circuit package has a plurality of leads positioned in a geometric pattern and each lead has a predetermined impedance. The socket comprises a substrate or body having a first and second surface opposed to each other and formed of an insulative material. The socket further comprises a plurality signal path members extending from at least the first surface to the second surface. Each signal path includes a first and second end. One end of each signal path member includes a means positioned to secure a lead of an integrated circuit package and the other end is adapted to be coupled to a conductor on a printed circuit board. A metal pattern or ground plane mesh is defined on at least a surface of the substrate, and coated through holes are defined in the substrate at a predetermined distance such that the impedance of at least one signal path is controlled to match the anticipated impedance of the lead. Further, radio-frequency interference with at least one signal path is suppressed.

    • A connector assembly for printed circuit boards comprises a first and a second connector part. The first connector part has a first housing of insulating material and having a bottom and two opposite side walls and with male contact elements mounted in the bottom of the housing and arranged in rows and columns and having portions projecting from the bottom of the housing adapted to be inserted into holes of the corresponding printed circuit board. The second connector part has a second housing of insulating material adapted to be inserted into the first housing with an insertion side and with female contact elements mounted in the housing and arranged in a corresponding manner in rows and columns and having portions projecting from a lower side of the housing and adapted to be inserted into openings of the corresponding printed circuit board. A third housing is provided substantially corresponding with the first housing and adapted to be fixed with its bottom on the male contact elements of teh first connector part after mounting said first connector part on the corresponding printed circuit board. In the second housing at least one ground contact plate unit with a cross-shaped cross section is provided, dividing said housing in quadrants with a mutually equal plurality, preferably four, of female contact elements, wherein the ground contact plate unit at the insertion side of the second housing projects from this housing along a distance substantially corresponding with the thickness of the bottom of the first and third housings, respectively. A cross-shaped slot is provided in the bottom of the first and third housings for receiving the ground contact plate unit, said slot dividing the bottom of the housing in quadrants with said plurality of male contact elements.
