    • A lubricating system is disclosed for an engine arranged such that the crankshaft is vertically oriented. The crankshaft rotates within a crankcase chamber defined by the cylinder block and a crankcase cover connected thereto. First crankshaft support members which support half-bearings extend from the cylinder block. Mating half-bearings are supported by second crankshaft support members positioned opposite the first crankshaft support members. A baffle plate is positioned in the crankcase chamber between the crankcase cover and the crankshaft. At least one oil flow passage is defined through the crankcase chamber from a top end to a bottom end of the chamber. In one embodiment, oil is supplied through a main passage in the crankcase cover and a branch passage through each second crankshaft support members for lubricating the bearings.

    • A blow-by gas ventilation system for a crankcase of an engine includes an improved construction for distributing blow-by gases more evenly between multiple cylinders. The engine has an air intake device that includes a plurality of air delivery conduits for the cylinders and a plenum chamber housing disposed upstream of the air delivery conduits. The ventilation system comprises a blow-by gas conduit that couples the crankcase with the plenum chamber housing. The plenum chamber housing includes an opening to which the blow-by gas conduit is connected. A baffle is disposed in front of the opening within the plenum chamber housing so as to divide the blow-by gases equally for the respective cylinders.

    • A control system for an outboard motor is disclosed. The control system includes a feedback control which obtains feedback data from a combustion condition sensor. The motor includes an engine positioned in a cowling and having a vertically extending output shaft in driving relation with a water propulsion device of the motor. The engine has at least one combustion chamber and an air/fuel charging system for delivering air and fuel into the combustion chamber for combustion therein. The motor includes an exhaust system for routing exhaust from the engine to a point external to the motor. The exhaust system includes an exhaust passage leading from the chamber to a main exhaust passage which extends vertically downward to an exhaust guide positioned below the engine. A passage leads from the exhaust guide into an expansion chamber and thereon to an exhaust discharge. The feedback control is arranged to adjust the ratio of air and fuel supplied to the combustion chamber and includes a combustion condition sensor mounted to sense exhaust gas flowing through that portion of the exhaust system positioned above the exhaust guide.

    • The objection of the present invention is to provide an actuator possible to transmit an output from a power rod of the actuator as rotary motion, and to provide an exhaust brake unit using the actuator, easy to assemble, a small space necessary for installation, able to place the actuator in such a manner that an axis of a power rod of the actuator and an axis of a valve shaft are aligned in a line, and heat transfer from an exhaust channel to the actuator is minimized. The exhaust brake unit is provided with a diaphragm 5 fixed between a first cover and a second cover, dividing into a first room and a second room, a retainer 6 fixed to the diaphragm, a spring 7 installed between the first cover and the retainer 6 or between the second cover and the retainer, a power rod 8 inserted in a movable manner to a concave portion of the retainer 6, a helical groove 8a formed on the outer peripheral surface of the power rod 8, and a protrusion 9 formed on a side wall of the retainer 6 protruding toward the concave portion and having the top end portion inserted into the groove. The top portion of the power rod 8 is connected to a valve shaft 22 of an exhaust gas control valve provided with a butterfly type valve 24 arranged in such a manner that it can open and shut a passage in the exhaust channel, through a lying-U shape connecting member 11.

    • A fuel injector arrangement for an internal combustion engine of the type utilized to power an outboard motor of a watercraft is disclosed. The engine is oriented with its crankshaft vertically extending, such that the engine has a top and a bottom, a first end and a second end, and a side between the ends. An intake passage leads through a side of the engine to a combustion chamber therein. A fuel injector is positioned along the side of the engine and arranged to deliver fuel into air flowing through the passage. In one arrangement, the fuel injector is connected to an intake manifold connected to the side of the engine and having a passage therethrough leading to the intake passage. In this arrangement, a fuel delivery passage is formed in the manifold through which fuel is delivered to the injector. In a second embodiment, the fuel injector is connected to a cylinder head of the engine and the fuel delivery passage is formed in the cylinder head.
