    • A plastic casement windows operator has a plastic housing, a plastic sliding tounge and a plastic operating lever. The housing has a plastic main body and a plastic cover with complementary peripheral steps and peripheral energy directors and inward extending receivers and pins with energy directors for joining the cover and main body after the plastic sliding tounge and plastic operating lever are installed. The main body has an inward extending cylindrical bearing opening, which holds a cylindrical bearing integrally formed between an operating handle and an activator arm. An activator cylinder at a remote end of the arm moves in an oval groove in the sliding tounge. Wings on the tounge support opposite jugs and cylindrical guides which slide along inner guides on the cover and main body. An extension on the flat body tounge has a U-shaped opening for connecting a window linkage. Integral rims extend around the tounge, the U-shaped opening and the oval groove.

    • A locking pin actuating mechanism provides rapid and secure operation of lock control devices such as used with aircraft for bombay doors. A downlock-pin actuator includes a motor and flywheel coacting with a clutch to drive a gear and linkage system. The motor drives a single revolution clutch to insert and retain a lock pin in a locked position. A second revolution extracts the pin to unlock the mechanism. Adjustable position sensing microswitches generate signals to control the insertion and extraction of the lock pin.

    • An enclosure latch arrangement including at least one latch assembly for securing a first enclosure portion relative to a second enclosure portion by providing, on the inside of the first enclosure a stationary latch bracket member having a pair of spaced pin members on a common line. The second enclosure portion is provided with at least one latch bar assembly, which includes a spring biased latch actuator in slidable abutting relation with a latch bar secured within the enclosure. The latch actuator is barshaped and has a pair of spaced pawl openings formed in an edge thereof, spaced a distance equal to the spacing between the pin members, with the pawls including cam edges at the point of operative coaction with the pin members. The latch bar has provision for retaining one end of a compression spring member, and the latch actuator has provision for retaining the other end and further includes first and second slotted openings, through which fasteners are passed for engaging the latch bar to secure the parts in sliding abutting relation. The latch actuator has a bent portion at an end thereof to serve as a tool engaging surface for urging the latch actuator against the force of the spring bias. The enclosure is provided with a tool opening in general alignment with, or adjacent, the tool engaging surface for enabling insertion of a tool into the opening for actuating the latch actuator to enable separation of the enclosure portions. The latch assembly further includes a plunger oriented in a direction to bias the first and second enclosure portions apart, whereupon, on closing the separation or plunger spring is compressed, and, upon actuation of the latch actuator, the spring urges the portions apart.

    • In order to reduce heat transfer from one side of a folding fire door lead post assembly to the other side, the lead post assembly includes a central lead post which forms the leading edge of the assembly. In one embodiment of the invention, wing panels extend from the sides of the central lead post and the receiving recess for the door when in closed condition is adapted to receive the central lead post and adjacent portions of the wing panels so that no portion of the central lead post is open to a room on either side of the door when the door is in closed condition. Heat transfer is from one wing panel to the central lead post to the other wing panel rather than directly from the fire to the central lead post. In a second embodiment of the invention, lead post side extensions are secured to the central lead post with heat insulating material therebetween. The central lead post leading edge which extends forwardly of the side extensions is adapted to be completely received within a mating female recess when the door is closed so that the only heat transfer through the lead post assembly from a fire on one side of the door is from the side extension on that side of the door, to the central lead post, to the side extension on the other side. In addition, where biparting doors are used and latching of the doors is desired, a temperature sensitve latch is provided to mechanically latch the doors together upon the fire side of the door reaching a predetermined temperature. The latch incldues at least one latching element biased to locking position and normally held in unlocked position. The latching element is released from its unlocked position upon sensing of the predetermined temperature. The temperature may be conveniently sensed by the melting of a material of the predetermined temperature which, upon melting, releases the latching element.

    • A latch and lock mechanism for an aircraft cargo door assembly is disclosed. The mechanism is adapted to a cargo door assembly of the type having an outwardly opening, nonplug-type cargo ramp and an inwardly opening, plug-type cargo door hinged to opposite sides of a doorway so as to form a two-part closure member in coplanar alignment with the airplane fuselage when the door assembly is closed. The latch and lock mechanism preferably includes a plurality of latch units that secure the cargo ramp in its closed position. The latch units are connected through a cam-actuated interlock mechanism to the plug-type cargo door. The interlock mechanism is such that the cargo ramp latches can only be actuated when the cargo door is in an open position, and further such that the cargo door cannot be closed unless the cargo ramp latches are in a latched position. The interlock mechanism precludes the possibility of inadvertent unlatching of the cargo ramp while the airplane is pressurized and in flight, and also prevents the possibility of inadvertently leaving the cargo ramp in a closed but unlatched state during pressurization of the cabin.
