    • A retainer device is provided suitable for supporting a valve shaft in a variable intake system. Preferred retainer devices can stably support a valve shaft of a variable intake system and may suitably include a shaft support part that can engage a valve shaft of the variable intake system; a fork part that can engage a valve shaft locking bolt; and a stop part spaced from the fork part by a distance sufficient to position the locking bolt between the fork part and the stop part. In preferred systems, even if a valve shaft locking bolt fastening the valve shaft is undesirably loosened during engine operation, the locking bolt is prevented from being completely removed from the retainer, thereby avoiding potential engine damage.

    • A flapper valve assembly and a method of making the same. The flapper valve assembly is mountable to a manifold as a unit. The flapper valve assembly can include bearings that do not require assembly on a shaft of the flapper valve. More particularly, the flapper valve can include a shaft having one or more flap portions and one or more bearing portions molded in place on the shaft as a unitary structure. The bearing portions are separated from adjacent flap portions and/or the shaft thereby forming a bearing that rotates independently of flap portions on the shaft. The flapper valve is mounted to a flapper valve carrier that can include sealing members for facilitating a tight seal between the flapper valve and the carrier and/or the carrier and a manifold.

    • An interlocking lever having first and second cam faces is mounted on a throttle valve stem, and a throttle valve is arbitrarily opened to perform start-up in a state in which the first cam face makes contact with the choke valve lever and the interlocking lever is stopped during low-temperature start-up with the choke valve closed. After the choke valve has been returned to the fully open position, the throttle valve alone is opened with a small degree of opening to perform low-load operation; and in the mid- and high-load region, the interlocking lever integrally turns with the throttle valve, the second cam face pushes the air valve lever, and the throttle valve and air valve are caused to open and close proportionally. Preferably, the degree of opening of the throttle valve for low load operation is adjustable.
