    • Filter cartridge assemblies are provided with a generally cylindrical filter medium which defines a cylindrically shaped core space, and a pair of end caps. A threaded base member having detent projections receives at least one of the end caps, which itself is annular and has an interior cylindrical surface defining an interior space in alignment with the core space. The interior space is also provided with interrupted threads defining detent spaces. In use, therefore, the lower end cap may be threadably coupled with the threaded base member such that the detent projections are seated in respective ones of the detent, thereby minimizing the unintended threaded uncoupling therebetween. In another aspect, the filter cartridge is most preferably “coreless” and is capable of being sleeved over a permanent, reusable perforated core element. However, the core element is removably insertable within a base member to which the filter cartridge may be coupled. Specifically, one end of the core element is provided with an annular set ring. The set ring is rigidly connected to the exterior surface in surrounding relationship to the core element at a location spaced axially from the one of its ends (e.g., the lower end) towards the other end (e.g., the upper end). In use, the annular set ring provides a seat which bears against the base when the end of the core element is forcibly inserted thereinto.

    • A multiple cartridge filter housing assembly for the high purity filtration of etching liquids, deionized water, slurries and other liquids used in the semiconductor, pharmaceutical and chemical industries. It comprises at least one upper and one lower cartridge within a bottom housing, a top housing and at least one extension housing. A vent tube in the top housing extending to the upper spacer ring in the extension housing generates a first air pocket between its lower end and the top of the housing assembly. The upper end of each cartridge is centered by a flow-through spacer ring. The lower end of each cartridge is sealed, against the pressure drop across the cartridge, and centered by an adapter ring. The adapter rings, except for the bottom one, have a downwardly extending tube with flow-through holes at its lower end such that secondary air pockets are generated above the holes and below the bottom surface of the adapter ring. The first and the second air pockets are in series allowing for multi-dampening of pressure variations in the liquid within and exiting the housing assembly. Nut rings with tension rings at each interface between housing components provide reliable seals inspite of temperature cycling.

    • The invention relates to a spin-on filter (1) for filtering a flowing substance, especially a hydraulic liquid or lubricating oil in combustion motors. The filter (1) comprises a casing (7), open at one end, which is connected to a device assembly (6) including inlet and outlet ducts (4, 5) for the flow to be filtered, and a substantially cylindrical replaceable filter element (12) fitted inside the casing. The flow to be filtered passes through the filter element mantle, either radially-inwardly or radially outwardly. The cylindrical filter element (12) includes an end flange (16), designed such that its outer edge (17) simultaneously acts as a seal for the casing (7) end. The flange (16) can be made by injection-molding plastic in one piece and is equipped with flow openings (18) required for the flow to be filtered and communicating with the inlet or outlet ducts in the device assembly. The filter may include a joint ring (13), the end flange of the filter element forming a seal (17) between the casing and the joint ring. The filter also includes a collar (10) with a thread (2), by which the assembled filter can be connected as a unit to the device assembly (6) by screwing.

    • A filter includes a cylindrical pleated filter element having a longitudinal axis, an inner and outer periphery, first and second end surfaces, and a plurality of longitudinal pleats. First and second end elements are sealingly arranged with the first and second end surfaces, wherein at least one of the end elements is an open end element. The filter element is a pleated composite that includes a filter medium, an upstream drainage medium and a downstream drainage medium. Each pleat includes a crown, a root, and a pair of legs. The legs of each pleat are joined to one another at the crown of the pleat and are joined to the legs of adjacent pleats at the root of the pleat. Each pleat leg abuts an adjacent pleat leg along the inner periphery of the filter element and the pleats extend from the inner periphery in a curved, an arcuate, an angled, or a straight nonradial direction to the outer periphery. The height of each pleat, measured in a direction along the legs and extending from the inner periphery at the root of the filter element to the outer periphery at the crown of the filter element is greater than (D-d)/2 and less than (D.sup.2 -d.sup.2)/[4(d+2t)], where D and d are the outer diameter and the inner diameter of the filter element and t is the thickness of each leg.
