摘要： In a coat and harness combination for an emergency care worker, for a rescue worker, or for a firefighter, in which the coat has a thigh strap pocket and two side pockets and the harness has two thigh straps, each thigh strap having a first end, at which it is attached permanently to other portions of the harness, and a second end, at which it is attachable detachably to other portions of the harness, via a connector on such thigh strap and an interfitting connector, which is stowable in one of the side pockets when such thigh strap is not attached at its second end. While not attached at their second ends, the thigh straps are stowable removably in the thigh strap pocket. The coat has a flap having a first edge and a second edge, the flap being foldable along the first edge to close the thigh strap pocket and to open the thigh strap pocket, the second edge being attachable detachably to a rear portion of the coat, via hook-and-loop fasteners.

摘要： A composite structure for a protective garment, such as a pair of bunker pants for a firefighter, a bunker coat for a firefighter, or a glove for a firefighter, has a moisture absorber, a moisture barrier covering the moisture absorber, and an outer shell covering the moisture barrier. The moisture absorber has a fibrous matrix incorporating a superabsorbent polymer, as particles or as fibers, and is disposed between an inner cover pervious to moisture and an outer cover. The inner and outer covers may be quilted so as to segregate discrete regions of the fibrous matrix. In one contemplated embodiment, the moisture barrier is affixed to the outer shell so as to have surface-to-surface adhesion between an outer surface of the moisture barrier and an inner surface of the outer shell. In another contemplated embodiment, the the moisture barrier is affixed to the outer cover of the moisture absorber so as to have surface-to-surface adhesion between an inner surface of the moisture barrier and an outer surface of the outer cover of the moisture absorber.

The expanses are configured and are sewn together so that the radiant reflective material covers the back of the glove and covers the back, side, and end surfaces of the thumb and four fingers of the glove and so that the material defining the gripping surface covers the palm and the front surfaces of the thumb and four fingers. A separate piece of the radiant reflective material is sewn to the expanses so as to overlap a tip portion of the material defining the gripping surface, on the front of the thumb, at the tip of the thumb. A separate piece of the radiant reflective material is sewn to the expanses so as to overlap cover a tip portion of the material defining the gripping surface, on the front of each finger, at the tip of said finger.

摘要： In an assembly comprising a protective helmet and an eye protector, which is adjustable between a usage position and a storage position, a fabric panel has a portion affixed to the protective helmet and a portion extending from the affixed position. The extending portion is adapted to wrap a portion of the eye protector and to be releasably fastenable to the affixed portion so as to form a fabric cover from the fabric panel. The fabric cover is adapted to secure the eye protector in the storage position and to protect the wrapped portion of the eye protector in the storage position against soiling. A hook-and-pile fastener is used to fasten the extending portion of the fabric panel to the affixed portion of the fabric panel. In one contemplated embodiment, the eye protector is a face shield. In another such embodiment, the eye protector is a pair of goggles.

摘要： The invention consists of a firefighter's garment in which the exhaled air or other gas from the firefighter's SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) is delivered to the air space between adjacent layers of the garment. The relatively cool exhaled air is forced under pressure into the garment's air space to cool garment and lower the heat stress on the firefighter. In the preferred embodiment, the garment includes spacer elements extending the length of the coat located between adjacent layers to create channels into which the exhaled air is forced. The spacer elements maintain spacing between the adjacent layers facilitating the flow of air through the garment. Alternatively, the air or other gas can be delivered to the garment from a canister or directly from the SCBA.
