摘要： A transportable water purification unit with a reverse osmosis water purification unit (ROWPU), particularly for military use, is arranged to process municipal and other chlorinated water without damage to the reverse osmosis filtration elements. A modular transportable dechlorination device is coupled between the inlet of the ROWPU and a source of chlorinated water, such as a municipal fire hydrant, swimming pool, etc. The dechlorination device has a number of tubes mounted on a frame, at least some containing integral reticulated metallic dechlorination elements, the tubes being interconnected by quick connect removable U-fittings at their ends, whereby access is obtained to the reticulated elements, which can be in cartridges, and the order of the tubes along the flowpath can be altered. The reticulated dechlorination elements preferably comprise a Cu--Zn (brass) alloy and have a surface area to volume ratio of 200 to 500, preferably 300 to 350. The device allows a tactical-type water treatment installation to couple to any source notwithstanding chlorination, to purify water that may have been contaminated or even poisoned by chemical or biological agents.

摘要： An apparatus is described for automatically opening and dispensing the contents of a vessel, for example, a vessel containing dialysate chemicals for dispersion into a dialysate preparation tank. The apparatus comprises a housing having an open interior region, with the vessel mounted above the housing, and a spike reciprocable within the interior of the housing between upper and lower positions. The spike pierces the vessel when the spike is moved to the upper position. The spike has an upper spike element that pierces the bottle and an integral spike body concentric with the housing permitting passage of dialysate chemicals therethrough after the spike has pierced the vessel. A drive means is proved for moving the spike relative to the housing between the upper and lower positions, so as to control the operation of the spike and the automatic release of the contents of the vessel.

The method consists of substantially removing fluids which may be present from the blood side of the dialyzer filter, pumping air into the blood side of the dialyzer filter with a blood pump to pressurize the dialyzer filter, and measuring the pressurization of the dialyzer filter. If the dialyzer filter pressurizes, the rate of decay of pressurization is measured. The pressurization and rate of decay are indicative of the integrity of the membrane of the dialyzer filter.

摘要： The method of purifying spent brine from the regeneration of ion exchange resin, for example resin in water softeners. The method comprises acidifying the spent brine to a pH of less than 3 with an acid other than sulfuric acid, which acid is preferably chosen from at least one acid which forms a calcium salt that is more water soluble than calcium sulfate. One passes the brine through a nanofiltration membrane to purify the brine by separating from it a waste stream which comprises the majority of the polyvalent ions present, so that the purified brine has most of its contaminating polyvalent ions removed.
