    • A helical antenna element is made by stamping a helical antenna base shape from a sheet of metal and pressing a plurality of sub-elements within the helical antenna base shape to form a helical antenna element. The helical antenna base shape includes the plurality of sub-elements, a plurality of joining pieces and at least one carrier strip. The helical antenna element may be further made by molding an insulating resin around the helical antenna element. Moreover, prior to molding the insulating resin, a ceramic cylinder may be inserted within the helical antenna element to insure the integrity of the semi-circularly pressed sub-elements. The carrier strip(s) are then removed from the joint pieces, producing the helical antenna.

    • A significant problem in rotationally symmetric dual reflector systems is the blockage caused by the sub-reflector. This blockage produces lower gain and higher side lobes. The invention disclosed herein can be used to minimize or eliminate the blockage effects. In its simplest form, the invention is to place a hole in the sub-reflector. This allows radiation to by-pass the main reflector and replaces the radiation which is blocked by the sub-reflector. In general this radiation and the radiation which progresses on the standard path, which includes the main reflector, will not be in a useful phase and amplitude relationship. However by appropriate design of the inner and outer sub-reflector surfaces, the main reflector surface, the feed aperture, the dielectric support and the possible use of a dielectric rod, the phase and amplitude relationships can be controlled. The invention also applies to cylindrical dual reflector systems which are symmetric about a plane.

    • A multi-band radial horn antenna is disclosed that has a precision 50 ohm feed line to ensure a match to a 50 ohm transmission line. The feed probe of the antenna has a threaded section that allows the antenna to be tuned quickly and precise in the field to provide maximum antenna performance. Once adjusted, a small locking nut is tightened to retain the physical location position. The antenna is economical to build as it has only four major parts. In operation, the antenna was found to have a 1.15 to 1 Standing Wave Ratio, a decade of frequency bandwidth and a low angle of radiation.

    • A dual band, higher and lower frequency range transducer with a circular coaxial waveguide feed is described having a first junction for connection of a lower frequency range outer waveguide of the coaxial waveguide feed to at least two rectangular or ridge waveguides offset from the longitudinal axis of the transducer and a second junction for connection of the at least two rectangular or ridge waveguides to a further waveguide. A third junction is provided for connecting an inner waveguide of the coaxial waveguide feed to a higher frequency range waveguide. The transducer comprises at least first and second parts joined across a first plane substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis and including at least a portion of the higher frequency range waveguide extending within the first plane of the join. A seal such as an nullOnull ring seal may be placed easily in the plane of the join thus preventing moisture ingress. Similarly, a feed horn and input and output ports may be sealingly attached to the first and second parts of the transducer. The first and second junctions are preferably impedance matched turnstile junctions.

    • An antenna system that employs antenna elements for both transmit and receive functions. Signals received by each antenna element are directed to a dual band polarizer that converts the signals to linearly polarized signals, and signals to be transmitted by each antenna element are converted to circularly polarized signals by the polarizer. The orientation of the polarizer and whether the circularly polarized signals are LHCP or RHCP determines whether the linearly polarized signals are vertically or horizontally polarized. A dual-band orthomode transducer is employed to separate the receive and transmit signals into their respective frequency bands based on whether they are vertically or horizontally polarized. The transducer is a waveguide device having only three signal ports. A high pass filter is used to help separate the received signals, and a low pass filter is used to help separate the transmit signals.

    • An antenna system that employs an antenna element for both transmit and receive functions, where a dual band polarizer is used to convert linearly polarized signals to circularly polarized signals and vice versa for two frequency bands. The dual band polarizer includes a waveguide including corrugated structures extending from opposing sidewalls, where ridges in the structures extend perpendicular to the propagation direction of the signal. The height of the ridges taper from a lowest height at the ends of the waveguide to a largest height at the middle of the waveguide. The corrugated structures interact with the field components of the signal in the direction perpendicular to the ridges that cause that component to be delayed relative to the field components parallel to the ridges so that the signal changes accordingly and maintains the same magnitude.
