    • The subject invention is a roofing attachment plate with integrated means to seal and affix such plate on the upper part of a roof surface in order to secure a roof sheet to the upper surface of a roof. Specifically, the invention comprises a circular member or other shaped attachment plate which is adapted to be placed flush on the upper surface of the roof deck with opening means to receive a nail or stud to attach the plate to the roof structure, serving to anchor a roofing sheet to the fixed roof structure. The fastening plate has an upper cuplike chamber that is centrally located on the attachment plate and coaxially aligned with the central vertical axis of the fastening member, and such chamber has an outer circumferential surface, a portion of which has a circumferential recess to receive and hold a circular locking ring. The roofing sheet is placed over the top of the cup-like chamber and secured to the attachment plate by placing a cap-like member over the roofing sheet and over the cup-like chamber with a circular locking ring inserted in the cap to lock the rubber roofing sheet in place.

    • A fastener having a head portion, a shaft portion, and a hook portion which secures the fastener within a substrate. The hook portion may have a plurality of serrations on a surface thereof for gripping a substrate. The hook may be of a material having a memory such that, when the hook is compressed during the insertion of the fastener in a hole in a substrate, the hook will expand against the walls of the hole in a desire to return to its original shape. Such a fastener may be easily inserted into the hole, but considerable force is required to remove the fastener from the hole after insertion. The fastener thus can be inserted easily through soft materials overlying a hard substrate without damaging them while providing an effective anchoring force within the substrate in effectively fastening materials to a substrate.

    • A roof membrane anchoring system in accordance with the present invention includes an anchoring plate with a roof engaging surface and a top surface that can be attached to an existing structure. The anchoring plate has an axial opening therein into which a lip extends. An insert is inserted into the axial opening in the anchoring plate once a roofing membrane is inserted into the axial opening in the plate. The insert has a greatest diametrical dimension. The anchoring system is designed to assume a first state wherein the greatest diametrical dimension of the insert is slightly less than the inside diameter of the axial opening and slightly greater than the inside diameter of the lip extending into the axial opening and a second state wherein the greatest diametrical dimension of the insert is slightly less than the inside diameter of the lip which extends into the axial opening.

    • A rotatably drivable roofing fastener of the invention of a synthetic-resinous-polymeric material, such as of an injection molded cut-glass-fiber filled nylon composition, includes means adapted for drillably cutting into insulation material during fastener installation and also means adapted to matingly engae a special tool providing rotatable driving while the tool also concurrently rotatably drives and matingly engages the head of a metal screw, which is located within an upper region of an aperture running lengthwise through the fastener's head and downwardly extending shank, so that the metal screw's threaded shank and tip extending from the aperature at the bottom of the fastener penetrates roof deck or existing roof structure upon rotatable driving so as to secure insulation material to roof deck or existing roof surface. Upon seating of the roofing fastener/metal screw and disengagement of the tool, a plug of insulating material is inserted into the aperture's upper region to provide fastener assemblies consisting essentially of the plug, the roofing fastener and the metal screw in the just-described relationship. A plurality of the fastener assemblies enable construction of roof assemblies, which in addition to roof deck, insulation material and fastener assemblies include an overlying exteriorly exposed waterproofing covering or membrane.

These securing units have a varying thickness across the surface area and are disposed in the field of the roof so as to attach to the membrane at the seam area of overlapping membrane sheets. Certain embodiments include securing units made of two pieces of the membrane material each piece having a different size, with the pieces welded together by heat or solvent welding.     • A nonpenetrating roof membrane fastening system for covering and securing a waterproof flexible membrane on a roof deck. A plurality of flexible spot bonding pads are secured at spaced intervals to the roof by a smaller, more rigid, fastener plate or washer and a linear fastener which extends through the aligned centers of the pads and plates. An outer exposed peripheral area of each of the bonding pads has an adhesive applied thereto and bonds the pads to the underside surface of the flexible membrane which is laid over the secured pads avoiding any penetration of the membrane by the linear fastener. The membrane is a nonreinforced EPDM and the bonding pads are formed of a fabric reinforced EPDM. The pads have sufficient flexibility so that the pads bend and flex with the membrane as the membrane billows up under uplift wind forces but have an elongation factor considerably less than that of the unreinforced EPDM membrane so that the adhesive between the pads and membrane is placed in sheer enabling greater delamination forces to be exerted thereon than if placed in peel which occurs if a rigid bonding plate is used. The fabric reinforcement of the pads also prevents the pads from tearing away from the fastener or fastener plate.
