    • An apparatus and method for forming grooves in a pipe for receiving mechanical pipe clamps are disclosed. The apparatus includes a holding fixture for securing the pipe and a carriage rotatably mounted on the holding fixture. Two arms are pivotably mounted on the carriage and extend on opposite sides of the pipe. Each arm has a grooving roller rotatably mounted thereon. An actuator connects the arms and forces the grooving rollers into engagement with the pipe. The carriage, arms, actuator and grooving rollers are rotated about the pipe in an orbit to form the circumferential groove. The method steps include forcing the grooving roller into the surface of the pipe at a fixed rate per revolution of the grooving rollers about the pipe in the orbit.

    • The invention relates to a method of notching a tube. The inventive method is characterised in that it comprises the to-and-fro movement of at least one pressure roller. During said movement, the aforementioned roller applies pressure locally to the wall of the tube (1) and plastically deforms same. The movement of the pressure roller is produced by a combination of at least two other movements, namely: a first essentially rectilinear to-and-fro movement, during which the roller rolls against the wall of the tube (1); and a second forward movement, the resultant of which is essentially perpendicular to the direction of the first movement. In this way, the tube (1) is plastically deformed in at least two movements of the pressure roller.

    • A positioning roller assembly for use when cold rolling a tube includes first and second positioning rollers disposed for initial contact with a tube surface, and a mechanism for maintaining contact of the first and second positioning rollers relative to the tube surface during groove rolling. The first positioning roller is positioned to apply a first initial predetermined load to the tube and the second positioning roller is positioned to apply a second, smaller initial predetermined load to the tube. The mechanism acts on the tube in a manner to equalize the loads to offset the tube during cold rolling. The positioning rollers also apply a downward load to the tube during cold rolling to, e.g., reduce tube end flaring when cold rolling a groove in a steel pipe and stabilize a cold rolling machine when cold rolling outward steps in a copper pipe.

    • A hand held, sheet metal forming tool for siding installation. A main frame comprises a base and an integral, semi-circular, ambidextrous handle. The operator simply pushes the tool along siding to bead or form it by grasping either end of the handle with either hand. A pair of spaced apart, cooperating press rollers press against opposite sheet sides. A deforming pattern defined in the upper roller and a mating deforming pattern that is slightly offset in the lower roller captivate and form siding sandwiched therebetween. An offset admission throat is formed at each end of the guide channel to ease sheet insertion. Siding entering either throat is captivated within a bifurcated guide channel longitudinally coextensive with the frame that preserves alignment. The guide channel comprises intersecting vertical and horizontal guide slots. As the tool moves, the upturned siding edge slides within a vertical guide slot, maintaining spacing and alignment. Sheet material is confined within a horizontal slot generally parallel with the axis of roller rotation that constrains sheet shifting during pressing. At each side of the bifurcation point between separate horizontal guide slot portions, an angled wedge forces metal admission into the adjacent guide slot portion. Each roller is mounted on an axle that extends from a subframe and penetrates the frame. Subframe spacing from the frame controls press wheel offset, which may be selectively adjusted by a threaded knob.

    • A method and an apparatus for forming circumferentially extending necked and flanged parts at an end of a bilaterally open hollow cylindrical body. First and second axially aligned shafts carry axially displaceable first and second inner tools, respectively. Each inner tool has a circumferential body-shaping and a circumferential body-supporting surface. In a first axial position of the two inner tools the shaping surfaces together define a circumferential shaping groove situated inside the hollow body, and the body-supporting surfaces support the hollow body. In a second axial position the two inner tools are at a greater axial distance from one another than in the first position to allow introduction of a hollow body therebetween. A third shaft, carrying an outer tool having a circumferential shaping surface, extends parallel to the first and second shafts. A positioning arrangement is provided for aligning the circumferential shaping surface of the outer tool with the circumferential shaping groove and for radially moving the outer tool towards the two inner tools such that a circumferential portion of the hollow body is deformed and forced into the shaping groove causing the two inner tools to axially spread apart from one another.
