    • Disclosed herein is an apparatus for connection to the secondary terminals of a CT to prevent CT damage and electric shock when the secondary terminals are opened, by providing an input signal and operating a relay circuit to short the CT secondary terminals. The apparatus monitors opening of the CT secondary terminals, and to prevent accidental opening, determines opening and provides an over voltage breaking upon opening. To prevent false operation of the protecting relay connected to the secondary terminals caused by the over voltage generated by accident other than opening of the CT secondary terminals, a secondary delay time of operation of the protecting relay is provided that can be variously set by DIP switch or otherwise, allowing the user to choose a desired setting. Further, expected over voltage values can be set according to load characteristics, allowing the apparatus to operate during voltage above the set value.

    • An apparatus for monitoring and controlling the operation of an electrical power transformer includes a processor with input transducers for providing to the processor inputs indicative of electrical current in a winding of the transformer and ambient temperature outside the transformer. The processor is arranged using an algorithm based upon heat transfer to repeatedly calculate a first prediction, based upon the present values of electrical current and ambient temperature, of a time period before the hot spot temperature exceeds a pre-set allowable maximum and a second prediction, based upon the current value of power, of a time period before the accumulated loss of life exceeds a pre-set allowable maximum. If the shorter time period of the two calculations is less than a pre-set value, for example one half hour, the processor generates an alarm signal and a display counting down the time remaining in the period, together with a second alarm signal at a shorter second time of for example one quarter hour.

    • A step down transformer power supply with short circuit protection which uses a minimal size transformer, as opposed to an energy limiting transformer. The transformer is mounted directly on a PC board without additional mounting hardware, and has a fuse in its secondary winding, which is required to pass a UL short circuit test, and is normally nonreplaceable. A low cost circuit limits the current output of the transformer such that the fuse is not blown, even under a shorted output condition, which would normally require replacement of the transformer. A rectifier circuit is coupled across the secondary winding of the step down transformer, and is coupled to a first terminal of a three terminal power regulator circuit which supplies a regulated stepped down voltage through a second terminal connected to a load. The third terminal thereof comprises a current/voltage limiting control terminal. A resistor is coupled in series with the load to sense the output current through the load, and is connected to the base of a transistor having an emitter, collector, and base. The collector and emitter of the transistor are coupled in series with the control terminal of the power regulator circuit, such that as the output current increases above a threshold indicative of a short, the output current of the power regulator is limited to prevent the slow-blow fuse from being blown.

    • A power transformer adapted for remote monitoring and controlling, and system of providing same. The transformer contains a temperature sensor, a pressure sensor, and a deenergizing switch. Electrical signals from the sensors are transferred to a remote load management center which compares the signals to predetermined standards and originates a switching signal when a standard is exceeded. The switching signal opens the switch to de-energize the transformer. The load management center may utilize standards which are fixed or which are variable with other conditions in the power system.
