    • Copying apparatus for copying both sides of a record which is placed for copying between two transparent sheets mounted in the front focal plane of a lens system of the apparatus, the sheets are pivotal about a hinge axis adjacent one side of the sheets, the sheets being rotatable through at least 90.degree. about the hinge axis which is in or to one side of an optical axis of the lens system. To copy the reverse of the record the sheets are turned through 90.degree. and in one embodiment where the hinge axis is in the optical axis a masking means having two apertures one on one side and the other on the other side of the optical axis shifts to record the reverse; in another embodiment where the hinge axis is to one side of the optical axis the hinge axis is shifted from the one side to the other of the optical axis. The sheets can be rotated about an axis in or parallel to the optical axis so that the sheets may be turned about a top or side of the record for "normal" or "tumble" turnings.

    • In a first embodiment, a stop having a plurality of ports is connected to and covers an end of a rectangular sleeve having a movable wide wall. In a region near the stop, a narrow wall of the sleeve also has a plurality of ports. A nozzle coupled to a pump provides a flow of air into the other end of the sleeve and the air exits through the ports. With this arrangement, a rectangular sheet inserted into said other end of the sleeve is fluidly brought into registration with the narrow wall and stop. After the sheet has been registered, the movable wide wall is moved towards the other wide wall of the sleeve. If a sheet is wrinkled, such movement flattens the sheet. In a second embodiment, similar to the first, the narrow wall and stop include internal projections against which an inserted sheet is registered. In a third embodiment, similar to the first, a manifold is coupled to the ports and a vacuum pump is coupled to the manifold to accelerate registration. In a fourth embodiment, similar to the third, the pumps are replaced with a reversible pump to register and discharge a sheet.

    • A corner registration device for a document feeder is provided for aligning the document prior to its advancement. The registration means includes a first registration barrier extending in a direction substantially parallel to the direction in which the document is to be fed. The first registration barrier contacts a first side of the document. A second registration barrier is provided extending substantially normal to the first barrier. The second barrier is adapted to contact a second side of the document. The second barrier comprises the closed nip of a set of pinch rolls, and means for inhibiting the rotation of the pinch rolls during the registration of the document. A copying apparatus including the above is also claimed.

    • An apparatus for imaging books or other bound documents with minimal stress being applied to the book structure, and for successively imaging and turning pages of a book by means of an air jet system. The book imager includes a support, for placement of a book in an open position, an imager having opposed imaging surfaces capable of simultaneously imaging the entire exposed, facing adjacent pages of the book in a distortion preventing manner, and an air jet page turning system. The support and the imager are relatively movable toward and away from one another, from a first position in which imaging is effected, to a second position in which page turning is effected. The air jet page turning system includes a fluffing jet for separating pages, a pick-off jet for separating the topmost page from the fluffed pages, a force applying jet for urging the topmost page into intimate contact with the imaging device and a page turning jet for driving the topmost page to the opposite side of the book.

    • A document feeder is disclosed which can be used with glass-top copy machines. It fits such copiers, having either a stationary or a moving sheet-support. It is small, lightweight, compact and portable. It feeds the bottom-most page first from a face-up stack of sheets, and re-stacks the copied sheets, face-up, with the bottom sheet at the bottom of the new stack. It operates in excess of 25 copies per minute.Drive wheels feed the document-to-be-copied onto the copier glass and, when the wheels are reversed, remove the document from the glass into a stacking area. The removal of a document from the glass and the placement of the next document onto the glass occur during the non-copying time of the continuously-running copier. The feed/separation act upon the center of the documents.The copier can derive its driving force and energy from the copier or can have its own independent power source.
