    • A flat commutator for an electric motor of a vehicle fuel pump. The commutator is made with a one-piece carbon ring having a flat outer face, a one-piece conductor ring with a base portion embedded in the carbon ring and underlying outer face, and a housing of a plastic insulating material molded on the rear face of the carbon ring and adapted to mount the commutator on a motor armature. A plurality of circumferentially spaced apart grooves extend radially and axially completely through both the carbon ring and the conductor ring to provide a plurality of individual sintered carbon segments each with a separate conductor for electrically connecting the segments with armature coils.

    • A fuel pump unit comprises a pump supporting flange for closing an opening in a fuel tank. The supporting flange has a wet side from which projects a fuel pump and an opposite dry side from which projects a lip defining a through opening in the supporting flange. An electrical connector has a mating portion for mating with a further connector connected to the power supply for the pump. There depends from the mating portion an insulating block into which have been moulded electrical tabs each having one end projecting into the mating portion and the other end projecting below the insulating block. Leads are connected to these lower portions of the tab terminals by means of electrical clips. The connector is inserted through the opening in the supporting flange from the wet side thereof so that a resilient skirt surrounding the insulating block is force fitted to the inner surface of the lip and a sealing ring is compressed by a flange at the bottom of the skirt, against the wet side of the supporting flange. The leads are then also connected to contacts of the pump.

    • As electric fuel pump for automobiles suspended in a fuel tank, use is made of a vortex pump comprising a casing having an annular groove and an inlet port and an outlet port respectively provided at both ends of said annular groove, and a D.C. motor driven runner arranged opposite to said casing and having a plurality of chambers annularly disposed at an end face of the runner divided by radially extending vane portions, wherein the outlet port of said pump and the backside of the runner are communicated with each other to act the output fuel pressure of the pump on the backside of the runner and thereby to receive thrusts acting on the runner and maintain a gap between the runner and the casing constant.
