    • Thermosetting powder coatings based on epoxide-containing acrylate copolymer resins are disclosed comprising: (A) an acrylate copolymer that contains glycidyl ether residues; (B) an aliphatic and/or cycloaliphatic polybasic acid and/or a polyol-modified anhydride of a polybasic acid and/or an amorphous or semi-crystalline carboxy-functional copolyester resin and/or a carboxy-functional acrylic resin; (C) and, optionally, fillers and/or pigments and/or additives wherein the acrylate copolymer (A) has a molecular weight (Mw) of 1,000 to 30,000 and a glass transition temperature of 20.degree. to 120.degree. C. and is obtainable by, in a first step, preparing a hydroxyl-functional acrylate copolymer (D), which copolymer is then transformed into the acrylate copolymer (A), by reaction with epihaloalkanes. The aforementioned compositions can be processed further to give thermosetting powder coatings which can be applied to substrates such as metal to form protective coatings or films.

    • The invention relates to copolymers containing carboxyl groups and having an acid number of 20 to 150 mg of KOH/g and a number average molecular weight of 2000 to 8000, which can preferably be prepared from copolymers containing hydroxyl groups by reaction with carboxylic anhydrides, to a process for their preparation and their use in coating agents. The copolymers contain a vinyl ester, a vinyl aromatic, a hydroxyalkyl ester of an .alpha.,.beta.-unsaturated carboxylic acid, and optionally other monomers that may contain acid groups. The vinyl ester is taken initially and the other monomers are metered during the course of a monomer addition time of equal length for all monomers, in the following manner:1) the amount of the hydroxyalkyl ester added per time unit remains constant, and2) the amount of the vinyl aromatic added within the first third of the monomer addition time is 15 to 30% by weight, that added within the second third is 25 to 40% by weight, and that added within the last third is 35 to 60% by weight, in each case relative to the total amount of vinyl aromatic.

    • A coating formulation for secure bonding attachment to surfaces of resilient or flexible articles, including plastic foam articles and comprising a highly adherent and coherent water-based film forming mixture for coating the surface of flexible foam articles. The working solution of the coating preferably has a formulation containing:ComponentAcrylic emulsion;Plasticizer;Coalescing agent;Polyacrylate thickener/rheology modifier;Defoamer;Surfactant;Ammonium hydroxide; andWater.The working solution is applied to the surfaces of the article being treated and the water solvent which is present evaporates at a significantly rapid rate in the ambient to form a thick coating having a substantially dry outer surface. The film remains securely bonded to the article even though flexed and otherwise roughly treated.
