    • There is provided a management device including a management unit that manages a nonvolatile memory configured to allow data to be written, read, or erased electrically, allow writing and reading to be performed in units of a page, and allow erasing to be performed in units of a block including a plurality of pages. The management unit divides a plurality of physical blocks of the nonvolatile memory into a virtual area including virtual blocks corresponding to the physical blocks, and an alternate area including alternate blocks for replacing defective physical blocks in the virtual area, manages the nonvolatile memory in management units of three stages including management of the physical blocks, management of the virtual blocks, and management of extended blocks, and writes to the nonvolatile memory first, second, and third management information for use in the management of the physical blocks, the virtual blocks, and the extended blocks, respectively.

    • A blower type chemical diffusing apparatus is small in thickness, simple in structure and reduced in cost structurally. This apparatus allows the chemical and battery to be exchanged readily and to facilitate electrically connecting battery to the motor in the blower. The apparatus casing comprises a first and a second side casing counterpart hinged together to allow its opening and closure. The apparatus also includes a blower with a motor and fan mounted in the first casing body. A chemical cartridge is disposed between the blower and the second casing body. The cartridge contains a chemical impregnated body that comprises a carrier in the form of a sheet impregnated with chemical. Also provided in the first casing body is a battery accommodating recess in which dry cells may removably be accepted to drive the motor and thereby to rotate the fan. Air is thus forced to flow through the chemical cartridge.

    • A bag opening method and apparatus for use in bag filling and packaging in which a bag B is gripped at its laterally opposite side edges with a pair of gripping members and moved along a predetermined path. A pair of suction cups 23 disposed facing each other at respective mutually spaced standby positions are moved to respective closest positions at which a vacuum is applied to the suction cups to cause them to adhere to the outer surfaces of the opposite side walls of the bag. The suction cups are retracted away from each other to respective intermediate positions between the closest and standby positions. The suction cups having reached the intermediate positions are stopped there for a predetermined period of time. Thereafter, the suction cups are retracted from the intermediate positions to the standby positions, respectively. The vacuum acting upon the suction cups is measured at some point during a time period which starts immediately before the suction cups reach the intermediate positions and ends at the termination of the period of time during which the suction cups are stopped at the intermediate positions. The application of the vacuum to the suction cups is stopped at a time between a time after the measurement of the vacuum and a time immediately after the starting of movement of the suction cups to the standby positions. The measured vacuum is compared to a preset reference value to judge whether or not the bag has been opened satisfactorily. The positions of the intermediate positions are changed according to the width of the bag.
