    • A pneumatic tire, more particularly a run flat tire, comprises at least three radial carcass plies each extending between bead portions through a tread portion and sidewall portions, the tread portion is provided between the radially outermost carcass ply and radially inner next carcass ply with a crown reinforcing rubber layer so that at least two carcass plies are disposed radially inside the crown reinforcing rubber layer, and each of the sidewall portions is provided between the axially innermost carcass ply and axially outer next carcass ply with a side reinforcing rubber layer so that at least two carcass plies are disposed axially outside the side reinforcing rubber layer. The reinforcing rubber layers are preferably made of a low heat generation rubber having a complex elastic modulus of 8 to 15 Mpa, and a loss tangent of 0.03 to 0.08. The complex elastic modulus of the side reinforcing rubber layer is preferably less than that of the crown reinforcing rubber layer.

    • An HDTV signal transmission system for sending a 10-bit-parallel YPbPr-format HDTV signal converted to ten C4 containers, and further to the SDH (a new synchronous digital network) STM-16 frame for transmission based on CCITT recommendations. The system includes a transmitter and receiver. The transmitter has time dividers for time-based dividing the HDTV signal into eight separated video signals, a C4 container device for multiplexing the eight separated video signals to ten C4 containers, and a STM-16 framing device for reformatting the ten C4 containers to the STM-16 frame. The receiver has an STM-16 deframing device for separating the ten C4 containers from the STM-16 frame, a C4 de-container device for demultiplexing the ten C4 containers to eight separated video signals, and time-division multiplexers for time-division multiplexing the separated video signals to the 10-bit-parallel YPbPr-format HDTV signal.

    • A transmitter encoder has a gain selector for compressing the level of a horizontal sync signal component of a video intermediate frequency (IF) signal to scramble it, and an AM modulation degree controller for superposing a control signal, which indicates the timing for the level compression, on an FM audio IF signal in the form of AM modulation. The transmitter encoder further has an oscillator circuit for generating a sine wave with a horizontal frequency (fH) and an nfH sine wave having a frequency n times the horizontal frequency, and a mixer for mixing these sine waves to thereby provide the above control signal. A receiver decoder has an AM detector for detecting an AM component of the FM audio IF signal from the transmitter encoder to reproduce a composite signal and band filters for respectively extracting the fH and nfH sine waves from the reproduced composite signal. The receiver decoder further has a gain selector for expanding the compressed level of the horizontal sync signal component of the video IF signal from the transmitter encoder, by means of a sync expansion pulse generated on the basis of the fH sine wave.
