    • A multilayer capacitor whose equivalent series inductance is reduced includes a capacitor main body having a generally rectangular parallelpiped shape with two principal surfaces in a face-to-face relationship with each other and four side surfaces connecting the principal surfaces. A capacitor unit is formed in the capacitor main body by a respective pair of first and second internal electrodes disposed in the main body in a face-to-face relationship with a dielectric material layer interposed therebetween. At least three first external electrodes are located on respective ones of the side surfaces of the capacitor main body, with at least one of the first external electrodes being located on each of at least three of the side surfaces. The first internal electrode has at least three first lead electrodes, each of which extends to and is electrically coupled to a respective one of the first external electrodes. A plurality of second external electrodes are located on respective side surfaces of the capacitor main body and the second internal electrode has an equal plurality of second lead electrodes, each extending to and being electrically coupled to a respective one of the second external electrodes.

    • A monolithic capacitor which can reduce equivalent series inductance (ESL) thereof includes a first extension of a first internal electrode which is extended onto two sides of a capacitor itself. A second extension of the first internal electrode is extended onto a first end face; and a first external terminal electrode and a second external terminal electrode are connected to the first extension and the second extension, respectively. In addition, a third extension of a second internal electrode opposing the first internal electrode is extended onto the two sides of the capacitor and a fourth extension of the second internal electrode is extended onto a second end face. The third extension and fourth extension are connected to a third external terminal electrode and a fourth external terminal electrode, respectively. Furthermore, each width of the second extension and the fourth extension is longer than each width of the first extension and the third extension, and at the same time is not shorter than {fraction (1/9)}, and is more preferably ⅕ of each width of the two internal electrodes.

    • A method of designing a .pi. type LC filter includes laminating dielectric layers on top and bottom sections of a magnetic material layer, forming a first external electrode and a second external electrode on each end of the laminated body, forming a third external electrode at a center section of the laminated body, forming an inductor by at least one conductor line within the magnetic material layer, connecting one end of the conductor line to the first external electrode and the other end thereof to the second external electrode, and forming a first capacitor composed of a parallel capacitor electrode within the top dielectric layer. One of the parallel capacitor electrodes is connected to the first external electrode and the other is connected to the third external electrode. Additionally, a second capacitor is formed composed of a pair of parallel capacitor electrodes within the bottom dielectric layer. One of the parallel capacitor electrodes is connected to the second external electrode and the other to the third external electrode. The .pi. type LC filter is mounted on a substrate having at least three electrodes wherein first and second lead inductance components L.sub.1 and L.sub.2 are formed. The external electrodes and capacitor electrodes are shaped and sized such that a ratio .alpha. (L.sub.1 /L.sub.2 or L.sub.2 /L.sub.1) is greater than or equal to 1.2 and less than or equal to 2.3.
