    • An electrical machine having an armature that is rotatable in a stator. The armature has a winding that is energized via a commutator or via slip rings cooperating with brushes. A holding plate is provided on which the brushes are held and which is supported freely shiftable in the direction of the axis of rotation of the machine, but circumferentially immovable. The holding plate butts against a part that is supported axially immovable on the shaft of the armature, preferably a bearing. Spring means acting between the holding plate and an adjacent side plate of the stator or housing serves to bias the holding plate in an axial direction. The part against which the holding plate butts, lies preferably in or near the plane of the holding plate.

    • Apparatus for moving lightweight articles, for instance thermoplastics cups, in which the articles are moved from one location by ejector pins which push the articles onto a conveyor for transfer to another location. The articles are held in a desired orientation as they are moved by the pins. Ideally, a passage extends through each pin to hold the articles thereto by vacuum which alternates with air pressure in the passage to force articles from the pin onto the conveyor when the pin is closest to the conveyor. The pins move along guide passages which assist in maintaining articles properly orientated and stabilizing plates are preferred adjacent the conveyor to stabilize articles during transfer onto the conveyor. The apparatus is useful in removing thermoformed cups from sheet and for this purpose a cutting device may cooperate with each ejector pin for cutting and then transferring cups.

    • A brake system is disclosed which comprises a primary fluid power brake subsystem and a secondary or back-up brake subsystem. The primary brake system is of the "power brake" type, and includes a power brake valve having a housing defining an elongate bore. A bi-ended rod extends through the housing end wall to be slid between spaced apart first, second and third positions. That end of the rod which is inside the housing is affixed to a reaction piston. The reaction piston cooperates with an annular piston, also carried within the bore, to have fluid flow through the valve and raise fluid pressure within a collapsible chamber defined by the bore. When the rod is partially pulled out of the valve housing, this high pressure fluid is directed to vehicle brakes to cause primary braking action. Should the primary system fail in some respect, rod pull-out action operates to energize a secondary or back-up brake system. Secondary brake system energization is caused by a brake controller which is connected to the primary valve rod, and which is also positioned to engage a secondary brake subsystem master cylinder actuator.

The flat belt may be reinforced with longitudinally extending cords. The toothed profile may be a standard timing belt profile and may be unreinforced. A length of timing belt profile material may be welded to the flat surface of the open-ended flat belt at or near an end. The length of timing belt profile may include at least 7 tooth pitches. The end portion may be clamped between a flat surface of a flat plate and a grooved surface of a grooved plate having grooves complementary to the timing belt teeth.
