摘要： An integrated system for diverting and reducing the size of waste materials in an effluent stream comprising a frame having a bottom housing and a top housing and mountable in the stream. A grinder unit is mounted to the frame bottom housing and comprises a cutter assembly positioned in the stream and a drive mechanism coupled to the cutter assembly to rotate the cutter assembly. The drive mechanism may be electric or hydraulic. A screen unit is mounted to the frame. It may be a single screen or dual screens. The screen unit comprises a cylindrical screen rotating on a screen shaft having a screen shaft mounted on bottom housing of the frame and supporting the cylindrical screen. A drive assembly operable couples the drive mechanism to the screen shaft to rotate the cylindrical screen as the cutter assembly rotates. In operation with the screen unit positioned adjacent to the grinder unit it diverts solids in the effluent stream toward the grinder unit for size reduction. An auger-screen may be placed downstream for removal of large solids after size reduction.

摘要： A sewage cleaning and comminuting system is provided with a transverse semi-circular concave filtering screen that extends across an influent channel which intercepts all solids too large to pass therethrough. A combined screen cleaning and comminuting grinder unit is mounted in front of the screen in close relationship. It has a concave surface for reciprocating motion therebetween along the full extent of the screen, so as to clean and remove large solids intercepted by the screen surface, and to subsequently comminute such larger solids. As they are recirculated back into incoming flow of sewage, larger solids are ground into smaller solids by the grinder so that they can pass through the screen. A semi-circular screen in combination with a grinder is a preferred embodiment of the system. The system includes a single or multiple drive means whereby the comminuting grinder is actuated and provided with the reciprocating motion along the surface of the screen.

In operation the diverter unit is positioned side by side to the grinder unit to diverts solids in the effluent stream toward the grinder unit for size reduction. Side rails are employed for flow control around both the diverter unit and the grinder unit.

The horizontally-disposed lower collection tank can accommodate one or more grinder pump units mounted to the inside of the single collection tank, and readily available parts (such as, for instance, the Series 2000—60 gallon tank e.g., from Environment One Corp.) can be used for the grinder pump unit. The horizontal lower tank creates a storage volume that is far in excess of existing capabilities, and the submerged lower tank is structurally sound and needs no concrete or other reinforcement, thereby lowering the cost of both manufacturing and installation.
