    • The present invention is directed to a cellular telephone cell site base station (10) having a single radio transmitter (40) and radio receiver (14) for transmitting and receiving, respectively, multiplexed frequency-modulated (FM) signals. A filter bank synthesizer (36), associated with the transmitter, multiplexes individual signals for transmission by the transmitter by exponentially modulating the signals to higher frequency bands followed by low-pass filtering and interpolation using discrete Fourier transform techniques. A filter bank analyzer (18), associated with the receiver, demultiplexes multiplexed FM signals received by the receiver by exponentially modulating each signal to its original spectral position followed by low-pass filtering and decimation, using discrete Fourier transform techniques.

    • Apparatus to facilitate reduction and fixation of a fracture by drawing together the fracture by applying tension to a reduction wire are disclosed. These apparatus include a bone plate for the fixation of a fractured bone having a plurality of fastener openings so that the bone plate may be secured by a plurality of fasteners across a reduced fracture to fixate a reduced fracture. The bone plate is configured with a channel that receives a reduction wire so that the reduction wire may extend between the bone plate and a reduction wire mount such as a bone screw. Methods of use of the present invention include fastening the bone plate to a first side of the fracture, fastening a reduction wire mount to a second side of the fracture, fastening a reduction wire to the reduction wire mount, receiving the reduction wire in the channel, applying tension to the reduction wire to draw the bone plate and the reduction wire mount together thereby reducing the fracture, and fixating the fracture by fastening the bone plate to the second side of the fracture.

    • A phase-modulated signal such as a quadrature phase-shift-keyed (QPSK) signal in a wireless communication system is demodulated by frequency demodulating the phase-modulated signal. The phase-modulated signal is separated into first and second copies, the first copy is phase demodulated to generate demodulated symbols, and the second copy is frequency demodulated to generate, e.g., a measure of the instantaneous frequency of the phase-modulated signal. The instantaneous frequency measure is processed to identify one or more symbol transitions, and the identified transitions are used to generate event signals having signature properties (signature events). These signature events are used in traditional Time Difference of Arrival tdoa algorithms to accurately determine position of a mobile unit in the wireless communication system.
