    • PURPOSE: Provided is a method for improving the stability of an aromatic polycarbodiimide (ar-pCDI) formed by using at least one phosphorus oxide catalyst which deactivates the catalyst by adding catalyst poisons. CONSTITUTION: The stability of an ar-pCDI formed by using at least one phosphorus oxide catalyst such as phospholene oxide or 3-methyl-1-phenyl-2- phospholene-1-oxide is improved by deactivating the phosphorus oxide catalyst. A method for deactivating the catalyst comprises adding at least one catalyst poison selected from the group consisting of a sulfonyl isocyanate and a silylated acid represented by the formula X-£Si(CH3)3|n to the ar-pCDI (wherein X is a neutral acid residue obtained by removing acidic hydrogen atom from an n-basic acid, which has 3 pKa value at the maximum and is not a hydrohalic acid; n is 1-3) £preferably in (0.1:1) to (30:1) molar ratio of the catalyst poison: phosphorus oxide catalyst|.
