CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing 2-nitro-2'-hydroxy azobenzene derivatives of the formula I according to the present invention comprises reacting diazonium salt derivative of the formula II with phenol derivatives of the formula III in aqueous acid solution having pH less than 2 in the presence of alkaline metal salt of C8-C20 alkylarylsulfonic acid and polyethylene glycol as dispersing agents: £formula I| £formula II| £formula III| wherein each R1 and R2 represents C1-C5 alkyl and R3 represents hydrogen or halogen.

    • PURPOSE: Azine-system chiral compounds is provided to use for the liquid crystal layer of a liquid crystal indicating element. A liquid crystal composite includes the azine-system compounds having low-viscosity and big helical twisting power. CONSTITUTION: Azine-system chiral compounds comprises a formula of R1AN2AR2. R1 is an alkyl group or an alcoxy group having carbon number of 1 through 24, R2 is a substituent of alkyl, alcoxy or ester. 'A's are cyclo-hexanes or benzene derivatives. A reaction formula of a liquid crystal composite comprises one alkyl group or alcoxy group having 1 to 24 carbons, one alkyl group having 1 to 24 carbons and two cyclo-hexanes or benzene derivatives. The azine-system chiral compounds are stable in chemical and include an azine-system structure. Thereby, the compounds have low viscosity, high nematic-isotropic transition temperature (TNI) and anisotropic refraction rate, so the compounds are very useful as chiral compounds and produce STN-typed liquid crystal indicating element because of improving helical twisting power.
