    • A cigarette filter sensing system and a method are provided to find out a defect of a cigarette filter by detecting an activated charcoal filter and to control the operation and stop of the system according to the detected result. The cigarette filter sensing system is composed of plural rotary transporting drums(12) transporting a first cigarette filter(20) supplied from a supply pool(10) and second cigarette filters(22,24) formed by dividing the first cigarette filter into two by a cutter(16); two sensors(18) installed adjacent to the rotary transporting drum to detect the second cigarette filters; an opto-coupler connected to two sensors and formed by AND logic; an HIP(Hanui Interface Card) connected to the opto-coupler to discharge defective cigarettes; and a PLC(Programmable Logic Controller) connected to the HIP to control a cigarette filter feeder. Two sensors detect activated charcoal filters positioned at both ends of the second cigarette filters. The HIP discharges the defective cigarettes if a signal detected by the sensor is different from a signal output by sensing the normal activated charcoal filter. The control unit controls the operation and stop of the cigarette filter sensing system by executing a process except for a cigarette discharge process.
