    • PURPOSE: A bidirectional WDM self curing PON(Passive Optical Network) is provided to use diffraction gratings in a CO(Central Office) and an RN(Remote Node), respectively, and to sense a failure of an optical fiber, thereby quickly restoring the failure. CONSTITUTION: A CO(10) comprises as follows. Downlink WDM light sources(11) are used for downlink data transmitting. Uplink optical receivers(12) are used for uplink data receiving. An NxN multiplexer/demultiplexer(14) multiplexes/demultiplexes uplink/downlink signals. A WDM unit(13) branches/couples the uplink/downlink signals. A 1x2 optical coupler(16) is connected between the downlink light sources(11) and the WDM unit(13) to restore a failure. A 1x2 optical switching element(15) is connected between a terminal where the uplink signal is extracted and the NxN multiplexer/demultiplexer(14) to restore the failure.
