CONSTITUTION: An apparatus(100) for changing a plug for a beam port of a nuclear reactor includes a shielding part(120), a position control part(140), an adapter(150), and a transfer part(110). The shielding part prevents radiation emitted from a beam port(11) of a nuclear reactor for an operator. The position control part controls a coupling position of the plug. The adapter is coupled in the position control part, and detaches the plug(12). The transfer part is coupled in a transfer guide, and includes a transfer unit.

    • An alignment plate that is attached to a core barrel of a pressurized water reactor and fits within slots within a top plate of a lower core shroud and upper core plate to maintain lateral alignment of the reactor internals. The alignment plate is connected to the core barrel through two vertically-spaced dowel pins that extend from the outside surface of the core barrel through a reinforcement pad and into corresponding holes in the alignment plate. Additionally, threaded fasteners are inserted around the perimeter of the reinforcement pad and into the alignment plate to further secure the alignment plate to the core barrel. A fillet weld also is deposited around the perimeter of the reinforcement pad. To accommodate thermal growth between the alignment plate and the core barrel, a gap is left above, below and at both sides of one of the dowel pins in the alignment plate holes through which the dowel pins pass.

    • The aim of the invention is to provide an aligning device (6) for fuel elements (1) with which fuel elements (1) of a pressurized water reactor can be aligned in a comparatively easy and quick manner. The cross- sectional dimensions of the lateral faces of the aligning body in the position of rest are selected so that they are less than the corresponding cross-sectional dimension of a reference fuel element by a predetermined nominal value.

    • A pressure vessel having a removable closure head in a high radiation environment is closed by placing the closure head having a flange over and spaced from the flange of a pressure vessel body containing fissile material. The closure studs are installed in closure stud holes of the pressure vessel body flange. Transition nut members of hydraulic nut assemblies are threaded onto the closure studs. Hydraulic hoses are connected between the hydraulic nut assemblies and a pressure source. The pressure source simultaneously pressurizes the hydraulic nut assemblies to simultaneously apply a uniform force to the closure studs sufficient to seat the spaced apart closure head flange on the pressure vessel body flange and to elongate the closure studs. The hydraulic nut assemblies are locked in place over the closure head flange while the force is applied to the closure studs and the closure studs are elongated. The hydraulic pressure on the hydraulic nut assemblies is released while the hydraulic nut assemblies are locked in place over the closure head flange and the closure studs are elongated. The hydraulic nut assemblies may remain connected with the hydraulic hoses after the pressure vessel has been returned to on-line operations and is generating thermal power. The hydraulic hoses connected with the hydraulic nut assemblies may be vented while generating thermal power in the pressure vessel.
